Great for training on a budget/no access to gyms.
Boo abdominal exercises. Good for routine assists but too isolated otherwise, IMO. I get the same burn from my compounds, but instead of the 2 muscle groups I work with ab work I work about 200.
You use your Uni's gym, Johnny? Should look in to power lifting. It's so addictive.
No car. :)
I mainly do the ab stuff because it is of absolutely no cost (home for the summer equals no gym option), helps me stretch before a run, and has a ton of variety.
I don't use the University rec as much during the fall and spring. I mainly just focus on running and I absolutely hate doing that in doors. The air is stuffy and the tracks are cramped. I usually prefer doing exercise in solitude and outdoors. I'd love to start lifting weights, but the whole not having done it in years (even then it was just for high school track so I never took it seriously) unfortunately, and I hate to say, makes me feel a bit self conscious about the whole thing.
If you have any tips or ideas to help me Nex I would welcome your insight.
What type of ab work outs do you do? I really need to get into some and start pumping out some muscles.
Ab work=/=muscle growth. If you want muscle growth you need to start compound lifts. High volume, low repetitions, caloric excess diet.

I did this as well. I also stop hanging out with some undesirable people I used to call friends.I started evaluating myself; decided I was unhappy so I set out changing that. Started goin to the gym, going out to events, meeting new people, caring about my appearance, etc. And now my social anxiety is, compared to before, next to none existent.
Exactly. Also, abwork=/=burning off all the fat on your stomach. Doesn't really work like that. You'd be best to do abwork and cardio training, depending on your level of physical fitness. You a bean pole, kinda sorta in shape, etc.? If you're a bean pole and want to build muscle start bulking and hitting the weights; stay away from isolation exercises (bicep curls, tricep extentions, crunches/situps, etc.) and only use them as 'assistance' exercises. IE you've done your main circuit of squats, presses, deadlifts, etc. and you can't do any more but you're not quite 'done' so you do assists to finish up.http://randomabs.com/ This site has really helped me a lot.
Yeah. Ab work outs are basically just for strengthening what you already have, burning some fat, and definition
I didn't cut out old friends, but so many of them are 'sit and do nothing' people and I can't do that anymore. I need to go out or else I get angry/depressed.I did this as well. I also stop hanging out with some undesirable people I used to call friends.
All in all, I am a lot happier now then I was this time last year.
Cheers. :CHappy
Acting like a jack ass to anything female also seems to work. They still love ya no matter what.

Have you tested your strength? 'Cuss almost always everyone could use from a bit of muscle growth.Sadly. :CCry1

Running is great cardio, but yeah my main goal isn't so much to build muscle as just shape everything up.

You probably haven't tested your 1RMs, but have you ever/do you ever squat/deadlift/bench press/shoulder press/anything else like that? If so, what's the weights and reps you do?Define test my strength? I mean I don't hate the idea of doing it and actually look forward to do what you are. Right now I don't have the time or resources.

And how's the situation at your University? My University's gym is free to use for all students.
You living there during the summer?I did all those exercises in high school track. Never really tried or kept track of the weight.
University rec is free for students, just down the street from me, and offers a variety of weights and machines.
Because very few things push your body and mind like going to the gym does. It's an incredibly addictive experience. I'm never going to stop going to the gym.i dont understand why so much people work out. im happy with the way i look.
