Despite the revelation of the Senator of Rattatak being a former Sith, Ryssa was beginning to think that this summit would bear some fruit after all. Stythani had provided an eloquent response, and the conversation had moved on following the line of questioning by the Chalactan representative.

“As Champion Din has stated, the Consortium and the Empire have maintained peaceful relations since the beginning of the war.” She nodded in the direction of the Sith representative before turning to the Senators from the Free Worlds Alliance. “Nor have we aimed to antagonize the FWA in any fashion either.” From her point of view, President Thorne’s decision to pull ISCRA forces out of FWA space was far from a declaration of war. Turning back to the Chalactan and the audience behind him, the governor continued.

“To say that we are content to watch as the war between the Empire and the Alliance devastates the lives of trillions across the galaxy would be, to put it lightly, a departure from the truth. The Consortium has done everything possible short of war to help those in need. You saw that with the ISCRA,” she added. “Fighting fire with fire with direct military involvement on our part would only prolong the war and alienate many of our own citizens, the majority of whom have no personal stake in it.” She paused for a moment to take a breath.

“However, it seems that both sides are already making great strides towards peace, and I am personally hopeful that this conflict will soon come to an end.”

What had she expected? The question bounced endlessly through the chambers of her mind. She pushed the boulder up the hill, trudging through galactic politics, only to find it rolling down again. A Sith speaking for a Free World…Kashyyyk standing with them. Cowards. They had bled and died for the Free Worlds. She had stood with Aezz when others turned their backs. What had diplomacy ever given them? Nothing. The Resistance was birthed through violence. The Sith only understood war. Even now, Eriadu and Onderon were besieged. Who stood to fight? Only the Jedi. Alex took a calming breath. She was not a rash child. The future was clearer than ever. They could walk away…leave this meeting to continue the war. Face the reality that Crime Lords, politicians, and Imperial agents would never find peace. She knew exactly where the lead. Blood and death.

She saw it when she closed her eyes. Her body on the Temple steps…the Order burning. War would take them all. This was their last chance. Their only chance. She would do whatever it took to see the fighting stopped…if only for a moment. Then the galaxy might see the Empire for the criminals they were. The speeches washed over her. Alex waited.

As a pause lengthened she stepped forward. She spoke directly to Rishan but her message to the galaxy was clear. “We…” No that was not right.I am to blame, Representative Sedran.” Her eyes remained on the aging man. “The Jedi are peacekeepers…healers…and scholars. I turned them into warriors.” Her voice began to carry. “This body may remember, years ago I asked the Galactic Senate to welcome the Empire. My own mistakes overshadowed that request. It was my hope then that such an inclusion would help us find peace. The longer the war dragged on, the less possible that seemed. I saw the only solution to stop the violence…was more violence.” Alex flicked her eyes to holonet cams. “The Order is not to blame, I lead the Jedi astray, and I have come here to set things right. To lay down our arms and return to what we once were, peacekeepers, healers, and scholars.” The winds of the future shifted. She had one last plea to make. “Our religious differences should no longer drench the galaxy in blood.” Sith could not be saved but her people needed time. Time to heal. Time to find themselves. The endless war served only the Darkness. Every life lost, every fallen Jedi…was a loss she could not longer stomach.

Galek’s hazel gaze flicked between the assembled representatives, and the Induparan had to bite back the urge to smirk at the exchange between Amira, Celeste and Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl. The Induparan had briefly encountered the new Senator of Rattatak, and was internally pleased to see the Sith Champion point out her abrupt change in allegiance before he did. As for the other members of the FWA?

Well, Galek certainly had to marvel - despite all of their whining and saber-rattling in the Senate - at how quickly they accepted the Force sensitive, former Sith into their rank, free of any characteristic mouth frothing.

The Induparan didn’t linger on that matter how long however - his attention instead turning to fixate onto the representative of Chalacta. His brows furrowed the faintest bit at the question that was posed, though he otherwise maintained a perfectly diplomatic mask while stepping up to the podium. “Representative Sedran,” He began, his voice tinged with that characteristic Induparan accent, “I sympathize with your position, and like you, I have come to Ruusan in hopes of bringing this war - and the needless suffering that it causes - to a swift and decisive end.” He straightened a bit.

“However, as my distinguished colleague from Ryloth has said,” He gestured a hand to Governor Kalayii, “To claim that the Consortium has merely watched, idle from the sidelines, is a gross misrepresentation of the facts.” He said flatly, his voice measured and never raising in volume. “More than other government present, the Consortium has, at every compass point, gone out of our way to help the countless civilians effected by this war. ISCRA was founded with that very motivation, and since it’s inception we have consistently strived to provide relief by any means necessary.” The Induparan allowed his gaze to wander the room, across the countless representatives assembled. “When Firrerre was attacked, ISCRA was the first onto the scene - evacuating countless refugees and providing them shelter within Consortium space. On Mon Cala, we have done the same. On Kashyyyk. On Agamar,”

He glanced back to the Chalactan representative, “On both sides of this war, the Consortium has gone out of its way - with little benefit to ourselves - to save as many lives as possible. In spite of the ridicule and disrespect we have been shown in turn.”

Galek arched a brow, “You say that we have done nothing to end this war, Your Excellency, but what is it that you would have us do? Commit our military to a war that hasn’t touched them? Escalate this conflict further, and put more lives on the line in the process?” He shook his head. “That is not a fair thing to ask - nor does it bring us closer to the goal of achieving peace.”

“This war is - and as always been - steeped in the religious conflict between the Jedi and Sith Orders.”
He said calmly, glancing between the two representatives of either group. “And it is the Alliance’s association with the former that has unfortunately pulled them into the crosshairs of that conflict. Both the Republic and Consortium have done the opposite - maintained a stance of neutrality to both parties - and have enjoyed peaceful relationship as a result.”

“The Consortium is ready and willing to embrace a peaceful resolution - and to help rebuild from the suffering the Galaxy has endured. But the question of peace is incumbent upon the Sith and Jedi,”
He glanced to Alex and Amira. “Grandmaster, you acknowledge that you are to blame in half of this - and that you wish to fix mistakes made in the past.”

“Are both of you prepared to put aside generations of strife and conflict, and commit yourselves to this peace?”

Trini gave an apologetic grimace as her droid mount jostled one of the other individuals in the viewing gallery. Her ears perked, however, when the speaker called upon the old Chalactan, one of the tiny microphone droids whizzing over to catch his words. Trini tried to make herself as inconspicuous as possible for the inevitable holocams, no mean feat for an Amaran riding on the shoulders of a droid, but she did not wish to detract from the old man's words.

And what words they were.

The barely contained frustration of the speaker was evident in his words; frustration at the waste and bloodshed that had wrapped the Galaxy in a death shroud. It was a powerful experience; Trini had long studied historical speeches, had seen recordings of some of the most moving and influential orations in history. Witnessing such a thing live, however, and so close, it was very different experience from viewing it at a distance of several centuries.

Other representatives spoke up in reply afterward, in retort and support of what had been said, and then in the same of what others said. The Amaran's keen ears listened to them all, but she still mulled what the old Chalactan had said. Finally, she whispered to the protocol droid below her.

"Excuse me... er, droid? I'm sorry, I didn't catch your operating number."

Trini's droid swiveled its head slightly, then replied.

"Aych-seven-dee dash four-tee-ar, miss."

Trini wrinkled her muzzle.

"Thank you... look, I'm just gonna call you Forteear. Listen, is there any way I could request to speak?? I don't think I'm listed as anything but an observer here, but I really think I have something to say!"

Forteear cocked his head, which caused Trini to shift slightly on his shoulders. Windmilling her arms to keep balance, she caused some of those around her to duck; the Amaran whispered apologies as they glared, and Forteear replied.

"That is... highly irregular, miss, but I suppose it is possible." The droid replied. A small communication antenna went up from a panel in his head. "Special provisions are afforded for civilian guests, but they must be approved by the Governor. I shall transmit a request... what should I say you wish to speak on?"

Trini looked hard up at the raised speaking platform, her speech crystalizing in her mind.

"The example of history."

Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl grumbled to himself as the ISC shed blame like a snake shed its skin. Their claim that they had helped citizens of worlds- including his own- was unquestionably true, but in his eyes the ISC had not been proactive in bringing an end to the war. No, they had not sat idly by; they'd profited from the conflict, both through burnishing their public image and, Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl feared, through the weakening of the FWA. There had been no attempt to mediate, as a neutral party, between the FWA/Jedi and the Sith; no condemning the Empire or the FWA for the very acts of war that kept the ISCRA in the public's eye. They'd even build up a massive military, one that might even convince the Empire to listen, and for what? As far as the Wookiee was concerned, the New Republic and ISC's role in the war had been by that of concerned bystanders; saying all the right things while shrugging helplessly that it was ultimately someone else's problem. Even the Hutts had made an attempt to negotiate peace between the FWA and the Empire.

None of those thoughts would be said aloud, however; at least not in this context. Even the example of history- a topic that the aged Wookiee loved to harp on- would not distract him. "Representative Sedran, there have been talks between the FWA and the Sith Empire about peace." The meeting hadn't lasted long; Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl had seen the holorecording. The Sith Empire had asked for the impossible right at the beginning of the negotiations, as if Cassian Graves of all people could speak for the entirety of the FWA. "The terms that the Empire proposed to the FWA, asking us to expel the Jedi from our borders, would not have ended the conflict, as their war against the Jedi Order and Jedi-aligned planets would've been allowed to continue." The Empire had steadily worked to isolate the Jedi Order on every front. "And so the simple answer is that the Free World's Alliance- ourselves a coalition of hundreds of independent planets- refused what would've been an incomplete peace." A favorable take? Perhaps. But let the Empire defend their ongoing persecution of the Jedi.

Interesting. Interesting that the Senator of Rattatak was outed as a Sith. That may become a factor, even if the former Sith rejected their ways, there will always be suspicions based on their previous allegiances. Dark Side corruption is a thing, and she could be a Sith infiltrator and double agent for all everyone knows.

Anyways, as for the talks, lots of finger-pointing at everyone, typical. After hearing everyone talk, he would then make a rebuttal to the wookie Senators words. "There would have been peace for the FWA. Complete peace mind you. Our quarrel is with the Jedi who sought to destroy us. Since the FWA elected to continue to aid and abate the Jedi and even strike at us themselves, you make yourselves a participants in the war. If the FWA planets removed themselves from the war and rejected the Jedi, there would be no need or reason for us to attack the FWA. We have made peace with the Republic after they severed their ties with the Jedi and have a number of agreements in place, and we maintain an understanding with the ISC. We attempted to extend an olive branch in the past and have been met with attacks on us by both the Jedi and FWA.

"Enough about the past, lets focus on the future. As already stated; contrary to popular belief, we are open to peace and not unreasonable"
Arcturus would then pause "Now then, lets answer the question: What will it take for all us in attendance to lay down the fighting for peace? Perhaps now we can start discussing it. First and foremost I propose this: The Sith Empire will recognize and respect the current borders and territorial integrity of the FWA and Jedi along with their government. In return the FWA and the Jedi plus their allies will do likewise, they will respect and recognize the Sith Empire as a legitimate governing body, it's borders, and it's territorial integrity" He proposed to start things off. Other parties are welcome to add their own thoughts and they or may not be agreed on. The Sith Governor would look at the body that convened today, looking at their reactions with his yellow eyes.

"What about a ceasefire? The Jedi, the Sith, the FWA, it doesn't matter. We all agree right here right now that no conflict or bloodshed will happen in the next year or two. If we end up liking peace, we may choose to extend this ceasefire more." Dusty suggested to the crowd.

Victoria listened intently as the parade of speakers reacted to the accusations levelled by the representatives. In a weird, callous way, she felt it was funny to see how some responded with indignation at the prospect that they should have done anything at all, while others proposed genuine solutions to the issues at hand. All that was proper and Victoria knew she should be more involved, but what had really caught her interest was the revelation regarding Celeste.

Taking another opportunity to speak, Victoria rose once more to ask a series of rhetorical questions. "What would it take for the Sith to join the rest of the civilised galaxy and stop taking worlds by force? Should we also be asking the good people of New Aledraan and Onderon what the cost of peace is with the Sith?"

Victoria paused for effect. "We should still seek peace and I would not delay it for the sake of scoring political points, but even if this assembly resulted in the settlement of the current conflict, what assurances would anyone have that the Sith wouldn't be just using that time to rebuild and return to their old ways, stronger and more ready?"

After this, Victoria moved back into the crowd, but this time making her way toward Celeste (@LadyRen). The new senator had hardly been in office long enough to sort out her own local affairs, let alone tackle any real concerns elsewhere, but even still they were colleagues. With a polite yet neutral expression, Victoria moved nearer to mingle but lowered her voice. "Nice speech, too bad all anyone is going to remember is that you were a Sith."

Alexander smiled as the tall Chalactan attempted to turn his venom on the Republic for standing by as this war raged on across the Galaxy. Either the man had been living under a rock since Alexander took to the Galactic stage or he was a fool. The Chalactan seemed to tire himself with his rantings and ravings almost collapsing away from his podium. The fanfare which followed the man’s speech gave Alexander a clear view of the crowd which surrounded the representatives.

His brow furrowed when Celeste spoke, the women had initially come to him, seeking the safe embrace of the Republic for her Rattatak. They had agreed financial aid for the planet, but soon after the Republic Credits left, the women went silent. Next he knew she had a Green Banner attached to her name and her planet. Ironic that she then claimed she joined the Alliance for safety and support, when the option to join a Government not at war was an option. But Celeste already had shade thrown at her today, if he jumped on the bandwagon it would not only be in bad taste but darken his own appearance and words today.

The following speakers were interesting, Cato Neimoidia brushing aside the problem to get to the solution. The Hutts doing what Hutt’s do best, play victim. The Sith Representative, spoke well reminding them all of the positive’s the Empire had achieved, Galek once again preaching about his ISCRA, the Divine Child of the Consortium. The Grandmaster’s comments however were interesting, Alexander took notes on the exact wording, could this be played to his advantage? It was no surprise to the Supreme Chancellor that it was the Sith who took the initiative in trying to arrange any peace.

Labelled the aggressors by the Alliance, if the Sith took the initiative in seeking peace. It would back the Jedi and the Alliance into a corner. Either push their pride aside and accept peace, or show the Galaxy that they were equally to blame for the state of the Galaxy. “Smooth.” He said aloud to himself. The first Alliance speaker seemed to take the latter path. Instead of taking the offer of peace and running with it, she straight away criticised the Sith Empire.

Alexander was tempted to allow the two sides to bicker about peace and keep quiet. But the Chalactan had questioned his Republic’s lack of action and he wanted to remind both the Russan representatives and all those present that he was a beacon of peace. One he could perhaps have them all flock to in time. As Ms Winterblaze left the stand he stood from his padded seat. The Chancellor waited for a moment for the eyes to drift to him before he began.

“Mr Sedran, I thank you for your words. Your passion to find peace is truly humbling. However I feel your passionate words are misdirected when it comes to myself and the Republic. My people were in the firing line when I took office. As Representative Din correctly stated, I took action and immediately sought an end to our war with the Sith Empire. The peace that we secured that day has continued till now, with no sign that it will change.

I would remind you that I also just sponsored a bill to the Galactic Senate to include the Sith Empire within our halls. To help facilitate discussions that would hopefully lead to peace between the Alliance and the Empire.

Pausing he turned to face the entire room, his eyes picking out those who stamped and cheered for the Chalactan’s speech before continuing. However, I would ask a question to both yourself Mr Sedran and to all others who stand here today. What Right does the Republic, Consortium, Huts or Independent planets such as Chalacta or Russan have to decide what fellow sovereign Governments do diplomatically? By what right should you force your choice for peace upon others, if they do not wish it. You would not force War upon them would you? So why peace? Just because they do not follow the rhetoric of what you wish, does not mean we should force them to fall in line with our beliefs.

I truly hope that all sides will see the benefits of peace and pursue that avenue, I honestly do, but If they choose to continue this fight. I will not force them to do so by means of arms or financial tools. For that kind of action Mr Sedran is an act of Tyranny and Tyranny is the antithesis to true Peace.

Now, I will stand here and support all sides which desire peace and help facilitate whatever proposals are agreed upon today. But I will not force upon either side a peace that they are not in agreement with. Thank you.”

Unlike the staunch moralist and his lack of deviation from his prepared speech, it was clear that the other speakers for the room had come to some kind of understanding that they needed to adjust. Not just to the outing of an FWA senator as a former Sith Champion but to the ongoing discussion that was occurring. They were, by definition, not in the exact same camp as Rishan and the rest of the local sector around the planet of Chalacta - indeed, the human man and the Twi'lek woman both seemed disappointed in the man's speech, as though they had either thought better of him...

Or hadn't thought anyone could be so naïve.

Still, Celeste had made some headway in blunting the dagger to the back that Amira had used in the form of her former allegiances. Not enough that it wouldn't be on every holonet channel for hours on repeat, but enough that it wasn't in danger of overshadowing the peace talks themselves. Indeed, it seemed that the speech by Rishan had prompted several responses from the politicians in attendance and none of them were shy about them either, as was their remit as politicians. Still, the red-skinned Twi'lek woman's own comments were slightly picked up by her microphone as she eyed Celest and Amira both while speaking to one of her close allies.

"Either Stythani is truthful, and we can begin the peace discussions in earnest..." she eyed Amira, "Or the Champion has just undone a very successful undercover mission set up by those who deemed she did not need to know the truth."

When her voice was broadcast across the chamber there was the very peculiar sight of a red-skinned person blushing. Thankfully, other representatives spoke up even as Rishan seemed to rally himself to respond to some of the responses he had received for his, frankly, overly idealistic views.

"Your definition of tyranny is factually and morally incorrect, Chancellor. You deem it cruel, unreasonable or oppressive to protect innocent civilian lives from death - why? Because their governments made choices to go to war? Those same victims made a choice to live and had it denied - where is their freedom of choice?" the moralist challenged, "The right is a moral one. To see suffering and know it is your moral duty to do something about it."

As the Chalactan and his local neighbours seemed to be ready to whip themselves up into a frenzy once more, seemingly incensed by how the Chancellor of the New Republic presented himself, it seemed that others were not quite so willing to let this become something more. Governor Omah stepped forward and sighed as he approached the microphone closest to him.

"Enough, Rishan. You have had your chance to speak - answers have been given. You do not have the right to grandstand or derail the proceedings because someone does not conform to your standard of ethics. Others here wish to speak." the Governor commanded bluntly before turning to the Chancellor of the New Republic, "Apologies, Chancellor. We have a Professor Halrixien from the audience who wishes to speak on the matter of these peace talks - droids? Can you please mic her up?"

As the droids moved to make sure that Trini had access to a microphone, several more spread out amongst the representatives to collect drinks orders. All the talking was bound to make the organic members of the discussion wish for some water or other refreshments and menus were provided. With orders being taken, several dozen protocol droids began to busy themselves with leaving the chambers to fetch drinks, ensuring the doors were secure to prevent any rampant protestors or the like from entering the chambers without proper authority to do so.

One of the audience members followed a protocol droid to one of the doors, only to be held up short as the droid shut the door and activated the lock.

"Please return to your seat Sir or Madam - for the safety of the delegates, all doors will be locked aside from pre-arranged recesses. Refreshments will be provided before the next recess, thank you for your co-operation."

While waiting for the Professor to be in a position to speak loud enough for the majority room, the rotund human representative decided to take the opportunity to speak.

"Representative Hickey Robthama - I represent the mining towns that have been established on Boz Pity and my friends around me." he introduced himself with a posh, core, accent as he puffed up his chest, "I, for one, completely understand why the Neutrals; the ISC, the New Republic and the Hutts that is, stayed out of the conflict. A fire you try and put out without proper planning just sets fire to you, as I see it. Need properly trained folk in the right frame of mind - like those ISCRA fellows. Therefore and thusly I wish to apologize on the behalf of my neighbour - former monk of the Church of Ganthic Enlightment, you see. Theologians make for terrible politicians, it seems."

The joke at the expense of the Chalactan went down well with those surrounding Hickey, though understandably less well with those who surrounded Rishan himself. Patting his chest, Hickey continued, slipping a hand half-way into an inner pocket as he did so. It seemed he was the kind of character who fancied himself a bit of an orator as he rocked lightly on his heels.

"Now I may just be a lowly mining town man... but it seems to be that some of you have the right of it. Let the past lie - lets make sure it's good and dead and move on!" he reached up with his free hand to smooth out his walrus moustache, "Chancellor Xerxes and Champion Amira have the right of it - the Sith have responded well to formalized peace summits in the past so it bodes well for this one. Just got to cool tempers on both sides first."

At this last part he eyed Victoria and Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl for their comments about their lack of faith in the peace process, their lack of belief that the Sith could actually genuinely come to the table. He gestured to the Grandmaster and Arcturus.

"Seems that like with Rishan, Religion is a factor here. The Jedi and the Sith hate each other for religious reasons - this Chief Jedi claims to be willing to start some demilitarisation. Mr Arcturus suggests that a foundation for peace starts with an acknowledgement of the legitimacy of both governments and I think he's right. The first step in achieving peace is being willing to accept that both sides have legitimate authority to discuss such a thing. And the Jedi say they're willing to talk about the second step - compromise. So let me sum it up so far."

He tugged at his moustache again.

"The Jedi will begin to demilitarize, all parties will recognize the legitimacy of each other as sovereign governments and respect their borders. The Jedi and the FWA will separate themselves both politically and militarily to become less of a homogenous blob as they are currently." he added the comment at the end to some answering snickers of amusement, "The oddly familiar fellow at the side there suggests a ceasefire until the formal conditions can be ironed out, but that might be best served for when there are terms on paper that can be actually ready to sign. For now we start small I say; do any of these things sound like an immediate discussion-ender? Or do we have a basis on which to continue discussion?"

The eyes of the Galaxy turned to not just the Jedi, the Sith and the FWA senators - yes their response to this even basic foundation was being widely regarded as vital but they were not the only deciding factor. Those not involved directly in the war, the ISC, the Hutts and the New Republic were viewed as the arbiters, so to speak, as those truly neutral in the war who could be trusted to be impartial and to encourage those with personal stakes in the war to try and work them aside.

Even Governor Omah himself seemed to be hanging on, not daring to exhale as the entire peace summit hinged on this moment. The moment when the will of those assembled to really, truly, reach a peace was tested against their desire not to compromise, in any way, who they, and their peoples, were for the sake of said peace.

As the Wookiee suspected, the Sith representative of New Alderaan (@The Good Doctor) didn't try to deny the fact that their persecution of the Jedi Order would've continued with or without the FWA's involvement... he only hoped that the rest of the assembly had noticed, as well. It would probably get lost in the Supreme Chatterbox's rambling about tyranny and peace. Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl hadn't expected a minor miner to fully grasp the significance of what he was summarizing, but even he was gobsmacked by what had been included in the man's takeaways... and what wasn't.

The Wookiee was already shaking his head as he stood to address the summary. "The Free World's Alliance and the Jedi Order are not politically aligned." he said, refuting that specific claim. "Each planet decides for itself how to receive the Jedi." He wouldn't deny that the Jedi had assisted in their military operations wherever Sith were present, but there was no strong consensus amongst the hundreds of FWA planets as to how to interact politically with the Jedi Order. "The FWA is, by nature, unable to make political alliances to any substantial degree with independent religious organizations, or to enforce such alliances upon the entirety of the FWA. Those decisions historically have been, and must be, left to individual planets." Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl summarized the FWA's stance on the matter, knowing that the only way to speak for the entirety of the FWA was to admit that they didn't agree on anything; something that he was certain the independent planets hosting this conference would recognize from their own experiences. The Wookiee was unwilling to see the FWA's autonomy compromised by these peace talks... even if he'd have liked to see the FWA and Jedi Order politically aligned.

"As for our peace groundwork" he continued, turning his gaze back towards where the Sith (@The Good Doctor @llamallove) sat, "I must insist that the Sith Empire also commit to demobilization." It was a fair point to raise, even if the Sith hadn't been the main aggressor in this conflict. Besides, all the FWA and Jedi Order had made thus far were concessions, and he was loathe to put them on unequal footing lest the Sith take advantage of any peace to rearm. "As for the current borders of the Sith Empire, which includes many former FWA planets conquered by force, I point to Felucia as an example of how we can diplomatically let the conquered planets determine their allegiances. The FWA and Sith can send delegates to debate, but the people should decide." Even if that specific instance had reflected poorly on the FWA, it had respected the people's wishes. It was also a subtle dig at New Alderaan's "representative"- its people, newly conquered by the Sith, would no doubt vote to return to the FWA.

@Nefieslab @allthepeople

((Edit; changed 'demilitarize' to 'demobilize' to better reflect the Sith's status as a government))

Arcturus really didn't want to comment on the nature of the Free Worlds Alliance. It is too complicated to even understand, not even officials from the Free Worlds itself understands how it works. And frankly what he says is moot, the galaxy by this point sees the Jedi and Free Worlds as 'buddy buddy'. Every time Sith appear, Jedi meet them at a moments notice, despite claims that whatever given world hosts no Jedi. Frankly, the Sith are doing these worlds a favor by removing them from the most inefficient system the galaxy has ever seen "To the contray, every time the Sith show up on a FWA world, Jedi are already there to respond. It's clear that your organization as a whole aides and abates the Jedi by hosting them on your worlds, openly or otherwise." This senator can't fool the Sith Governor of New Alderaan.

As for the rest of what the wookie Senator said, Arcturus had some choice remarks to make. "It's rather unfortunate Senator Aezz, we've come all this way, I make a proposal that seems rather agreeable and generous, don't you think? We respect your sovereignty, you and the Jedi respect ours... the war ends..." The governor sighed before glaring at Aezz with his sickly yellow eyes "We will not commit to demilitarization, we will always reserve the right to defend ourselves and have the means to do so. We are asking you for us to respect each others sovereignty. We have not asked you or the Jedi to demilitarize. And you insist on moving the goalposts further and further away?" Arcturus would speak more softly. The Sith will not give up it's newly conquerored borders. Sith fought hard and died to get the Empire to it's territorial extent. "If you keep doing that, then we will not reach an understanding and achieve peace. Is that what you want? For us all not to have peace?" Arcturus replied back.

Now onto what the other Senator Victora. "This isn't the time to be snide Senator Victora. The FWA and Jedi have attacked us and attempted to take our worlds by force as well" That was true, Felucia is a big example. Now onto the part about assurances "What sort of assurances are you looking for? The Sith are willing to talk peace as demonstrated by us being here." The Sith are in control of this war, the Sith could have ignored this convention, but they didn't. "We can continue the current path of war" Which isn't looking good for the Jedi or FWA at all. The Sith Empire has grown, become such a fearsome war machine while the FWA is down on it's luck and the Jedi only have a paltry military force and their 'Resistance' is just rable. "Or we can start walking down the path of peace. If you don't trust us, then these talks are doomed from the start."

Arcutrus didn't really care about that shady Governor, he's a fool; or the words of the Ruusan hosts.

And so the wild back and forth would begin...a few jabs here and there in the end they would all run in circles again. Weren't they hear to finally change things? Diplomats from all factions had come together to discuss the prospect of a peaceful future and they started firing against one another again. This was not only exhausting but also not the purpose of this meeting. Celeste stepped forward to adress the govenor of Cato Neimoidia (@Phoenix) first."I agree with Govenor Tendree. We are not here to point fingers and blame one another for mistakes of the past. We want to look into the future, a hopefully peaceful and prosperous future" she began, her voice polite yet determined. "I also agree with Champion and Sith representative Din (@llamallove) here. It has been a while since the FWA has actively reached out to the Empire, but this is exactly what needs to change. We will start negotiating with the Empire, because we need to eradicate the tensions between the Empire and the FWA. What senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl pointed out, is however, still true. There had been attempts and I can understand the Empire's wish for neutrality in terms of the Jedi. Officially, there is however no political alignment as the Order of the Jedi is not even a political institution like, for example, the ISC. The Jedi have come to Kashyyyk to save the innocent while the planet, and thereby the home of countless Wookies had been made uninhabitable on a broad scale. As far as I am concerned, they stepped in to save lives, not so interfere with existing tensions between the Empire and the FWA".

Once she had outline this argument, she paused for a moment, quickly glancing towards the Grandmaster (@Valen Pelora) before she went on, directing her gaze towards the new Govenor of New Alderaan(@The Good Doctor)."Govenor Alkaios, I agree with you as well in regard to starting down a path of peace. The solution given by Senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl seems like a compromise, wouldn't you agree? We should let the planets decide, which style of government they prefer instead of having more invasions pop up that will only cost countless more lives. We, as the FWA, should be allowed to decide whether we tolerate the Jedi within our borders. As long as no one tries to invade and forcefully overthrow a planet's government, there is no need for them to step in anyway. You cannot blame them for wanting to protect the innocent. In addition to that, the same rules should apply to all of us. I understand your wish for staying in the position of being able to defend yourself, as long as we are talking about defense only. The Jedi Order is no military corps and no goverment, that is true, but as long as they are interfering in the name of peace, I see no need for us having to cut our ties. We should all lay down our arms and start talking peacefully, just like we all do now. It is a good thing that we have all established a common ground. We all want peace and we all came here to share our thoughts and visions, but in order to accomplish such a total peace, we all need to compromise on certain things and to respect each other's sovereignty with respect". She left the podium for others again to share their thoughts as she quickly let her gaze wander across the representatives. The Sith were right about having shown the willingness to talk, but if the Empire wwould have to stop wanting to forcefully expand borders.

Trini cleared her throat nervously, running finger through her fur nervously as she watched the droids make arrangements for her to speak. She had difficulty conceiving of the number of people who were going to see her make her point, both live in the audience and in holonet broadcasts over the coming weeks, before the news cycles fastened on to something else.

It's not as if you haven't been in the news before, Trini. She mentally reassured herself. Of course, how many people outside the university even remember that you discovered an old ship with some shiny baubles on it anymore?

Abruptly, a droid was attempting to get her attention, holding up digits in a count. One of the hovering microphones had maneuvered into position to pick up her voice, and Trini fought down a wave of nervousness.

Here goes nothing.

"Er.... yes, hello, everyone." She began with a nervous twinge. "My name is Trini Halrixien, I am a Professor of Pre-Republic Archaeology at the University of Rudrig. My esteemed colleague, Professor Rosne Stamseoss, has a background in political science, and was originally slated to be here; he took ill, and it is my honor to have been chosen to come in his place."

She reached up and adjusted her large corrective lenses nervously.

"Nevertheless, given my specialization, I believe I may have a perspective on these proceedings that - all due respect to those in attendance - is not usually appreciated."

She spread her arms.

"This has all been done before."

The Amaran swallowed nervously, then continued.

"I am a student of history. My main area of research has been the ancient past of the Tion Cluster, which is my homeland. It is a region which, at different times, has seen just about every form of conflict and government the sentient mind can imagine. Tribal skirmishes to mechanized slaughter, dictatorial despotism to absolute democracies, theocracies to absolute secularism. I, as stated, am a historian; I make no judgement on any of these systems; it is, however, my duty to study them and to impart the lessons that history teaches us."

She looked toward the representatives of the Sith, then the Jedi.

"I imagine," she continued, "that both of your orders would be quick to point out that while the conflict between you stems primarily from your differing interpretations of the nature of the Force, there is more than mere religion involved. I am a historian, I am not a physicist; however, my reading of historical accounts, not to mention some of my own personal experiences, lead me to believe there is something to this. However, by the same token, I do not believe your conflict is inevitable, or indeed, that your differences are irreconcilable. My own research, and that of colleagues far more knowledgeable than I on this specific subject, indeed points to a common lineage from which both orders diverged; to my mind, this is evidence that even after so long opposed, there is common ground between your faiths. And that is the one path to peace that I do not believe has ever been seriously tried between you."

She turned to the others in the room.

"I said before, this has all been done before. It is true. Since prehistory, groups very much like yours have met in rooms very much like this, and have tried to form lasting peace between themselves. The names and the faces change, but the substance remains the same. Sometimes they have even succeeded, at least for a time; there have been golden ages of peace, after all, the High Republic era lasted for centuries, as an example."

The little Amaran shook her head.

"But every golden age has something in common; those who forged them had to think outside the box. The High Republic happened after the Ruusan Reformations essentially outlawed large standing militaries in the Republic. The Sith Empire's arguable zenith happened after the Empress Andraste embraced the trappings of a hated enemy. The golden age of Agorander's empire came when he encouraged the adoption of modern science on his worlds."

She rubbed an ear nervously.

"To those assembled, as an historian who knows how this sort of thing so often ends. The only way this meeting is successful is if you try to think about the problems in ways that are not obvious."

She looked away shyly.

"Er, thank you. That's all."

Already, the finer niceties of these proceedings had come to an end, and for all the talk about "not pointing fingers," there were a lot of people playing the blame game. Not that Amira minded. She preferred plain and straightforward conversations. The less beating around the bush there was, the better. That's how she'd been raised, and for too long she'd not been given a voice of her own under her master. There was a lot of blame being tossed around—at the New Republic, at the ISC, and even at the Hutts. Free worlds senators believed they had their fingers on the pulse of the matter, and that finger pointed directly at the Sith Empire.

The Free Worlds Alliance never could play nice for very long. Amira sighed quietly to herself, likely imperceptible to anyone other than, perhaps, the Senator of New Alderaan, who she sat next to. In a room full of people that hated you, it was a comfort to have at least one likeminded individual nearby. The Wookiee's words, when paired with the Senator of Rattatk's speech, were a testament to just how ineffective the Free Worlds Alliance had become. The Senator of Kashyyyk claimed they were not politically aligned with the Jedi, while the Senator of Rattatak proceeded to defend the Jedi, going so far as to cite the Jedi's defense of the Wookiees of Kashyyyk. That was never a good talking point. She spoke of the countless Wookiee's displaced by the Sith's bombardment of the planet, but countless Wookiees had also been grilled to a char and turned into hairy space goo as they'd passed through the planet's atmosphere the orders of the Jedi.

Clearly, Senator Stythani was an idealist in a room full of realists. It was a commendable quality, actually, and one that Amira could only hope would not fade over time, even if she did wish it were directed towards the interests of the Empire instead. It was a miracle that galactic politics had not yet stripped her of her heart and soul as it had the majority of politicians in this room. Give it five to ten years. She had to wonder what had initiated that drastic shift, from Sith Champion with political ambitions to an ambassador for the enemy.

"I resent the Senator of Gannaria's remarks," the Tiefling spoke up, voice steady. "And her suggestion that the Sith Empire did not come here in good faith, that we would lie to this assembly. I suppose that by her recommendation for the Empire to join the rest of the "civilized worlds," she is referring to some of her sister planets, such as Onderon? Was it civilized, Senator, to detonate a children's school on Dromund Kaas? And what assurance would we have that you would uphold your side of the agreement? That you would not invade our planets as you did on Felucia?"

As for the Senator of Rattatak's remarks, she continued, "Did the Free Worlds Alliance consider the Felucian's decision when they invaded, alongside the Jedi?" Empress Andruil had peacefully negotiated with the native Felucians, and the planet had lived in peace until Sector Rangers and Jedi came knocking. "Did the Free World's Alliance consider the voices of a billion Sith citizens when they denied the Empire equal representation in the Senate?"

It was a sign, at least in Amira's mind, of the Free Worlds Alliance's inflexibility, not to mention their naivety, to insist that the Empire should immobilize its military. "The Empire cannot immobilize its military. Unlike the Jedi Order, we are not merely a religious sect. We are a government, and our citizens rely on us for protection. We cannot simply abandon them on a whim and hope for the best. That is not how governments work, but that is how nations fall. The Jedi and the Free Worlds Alliance are not the only forces that could pose a threat to citizens of the Empire. Not to mention the fact that immobilizing now would cut hundreds of thousands of men and women off from their livelihoods."

Senator Celeste stood, and reaffirmed Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl's gamble by more or less agreeing with him; no certainty, given the dynamics of the FWA. Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl was a vocal voice, but his was not the only one representing the FWA here. (@LadyRen)

A chill ran down Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl's spine as the Professor (@AutoFox ) spoke at length, warning as to the potential futility of such a meeting. The Wookiee had not come this far to fail, but the scholarly woman's words unnerved him to the point that he focused back on what the Sith were saying.

He'd seen and ignored the female Sith's wink; her seductive charms would not work on him. (@llamallove ) "Demobilization simply means that your military will stand down from a combat-ready status." Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl said, not surprised that the term was foreign to the Sith. "You interpret my comments too harshly; I do not begrudge you a military for which to defend yourselves" - the Wookiee lied through his teeth; he very much would like to see the Sith disarmed - "but you must admit that weapons like Onagers have no use in the defense of your Empire. Those and weapons like them are the ones that should be demobilized." Firerre... Kashyyyk... cannot, must not happen again.

The Wookiee then turned towards the other Sith (@The Good Doctor ) "As for recognizing the Sith Empire's sovereignty, allowing conquered planets the option to rejoin the FWA or stay with the Sith Empire does not infringe on that; it is simply giving them the same choice that was given to Felucia." Was the Sith Empire- so desperate for recognition as a political body- unwilling or unable to defend their ill-gotten gains in the political sphere?

Disarmament! Nor'baals eyes went wide with shock. Absolutely not! That would be terrible for business! he lamented, drumming his hands on the arm of his recliner with irritation. The last thing the Hutts needed was everyone sitting in a friendship circle.

Nodding as Arcturus spoke, Nor'baal rapidly identified the Sith as one of the more 'Hutt aligned' parties of this specific meeting. Whilst he couldn't precisely remark that he wanted nobody to disarm because it was 'bad for business', Nor'baal could re-align his argument to that of the Sith line.

Different argument, same outcome.

<It seems unreasonable to expect the Empire to demobilize in return for a religious order to do likewise. Nobody can expect an ordered galactic Government to throw down its arms, but we can expect an order of monks to do so. > he paused, contemplating how next to proceed.

The suggestion that 'the people' should decide whose Government they served under was simply an obscene one. In Nor'baals experience, the very last thing one wanted was the 'people' thinking to much. <Perhaps we should decide on that first before we start deciding how planets agree to their allegiance. The integrity of borders must be respected as part of any lasting peace. The Alliance and its obsession with 'democratic choice' seem to me to be little more than a thinly veiled attempt to expand their own power at the expense of everyone else.>

The conversation quickly spiraled out of control. Voices upon voices spoke across the rotunda. The same old arguments made over and over. The Sith claimed to wish for peace but seized every opportunity lofted by the Free Worlds to twist the verbal knife. Aezza and Celeste continued to disappoint her. Why not admit the truth? Without the Jedi, there would be no Free Worlds. The Sith came…the politicians sat…and the Jedi died to keep their people safe. She knew the picture that painted but it came from a simple truth. The Order would defend any world. Republic, ISC, neutral…it did not matter. If the Empire came, so would the Jedi. The Free Worlds had simply born the brunt of that assault. Jedi had sacrificed on just as many unaligned planets. She suppressed a sigh. There were too many voices and little enough common sense. The Empress wasn’t even here. Could a Champion agree to peace for an Empire?

Alex rubbed the bridge of her nose. She raised her voice again. “Please…we must not repeat our past mistakes.” Her point was clear. If this devolved into a shouting match it would be the same as every galactic congregation. Useless. Alex’s eyes came to rest on the contingent from the Free Worlds before shifting to those from the Empire. “There is blood on all our hands. No one is faultless in this war. The moral high ground was abandoned long ago.” Her heart beat to a different tune. The Sith burned worlds. The Darkside was death…but given the chance would she not see them wiped from the galaxy? Did she not send the Shadows to end lives? This was not about her. It was no longer about what she wanted. It was about peace. A peace she had to find. “We should not ignore the past, but we have a chance now to save trillions of lives. That chance cannot be wasted.” Alex took another deep breath.

“Representative Robthama.” She turned to look at the ‘simple’ miner. “The Order will agree to recognize Imperial boarders and begin to scale back our offensive capabilities.” She paused for a moment. “We will return to our roots. If any world calls for our aid, regardless of allegiance, we will come but the governing of the Free Worlds will remain with the Free Worlds.” She took a small breath. “I would ask two things. I truly believe Governor Alkaios and Champion Din are here for peace, but we must know do you have the Empress’ blessing should we find ourselves on that road? Second, those worlds, on any side, that have been invaded by force be given a chance to choose their future. No guarantees, no promises, just a choice they were not given before.” Alex had one last thought trapped in the back of her mind. Glee Anselm. Those people needed to be freed. If nothing else, perhaps they could agree on that.

Nor'baal sneered as the half-witted Jedi began to whine about how tragic life was. She was a commanding specimen of a human, standing as if possessed of a natural strength of character that, Nor'baal could not help but wonder, would have made her an excellent addition to his slave pits. Of course, she was far too talkative to be a decent member of his entourage - opinions tended to manifest themselves as ambition, after all.

His right hand clenched, reaching for a whip that simply was not there, as he subconsciously felt the desire to remind this upstart of her place in the 'divine order'. He rolled his eyes, cursing the incompetence of whatever minion of his it was who had failed to ensure a whip was smuggled into this event. That would have helped conclude these 'talks' much faster! He hadn't the slightest sympathy for the lamentations of the lesser species, not even the impressive Jedi.

All she seemed to be doing was repenting for long-gone wrongs. Baring her throat before the assembled pack of politicians as if she imagined that would actually help the talks. No! The only thing the lesser species and their representatives respected was the lash! That's what they needed - force, subjugation, terror!

A smirk of self-indulgent superiority made its way back onto Nor'baals face as he was once again reminded why the lofty Jedi always failed. That was why the Hutts always came out on top, they knew that the lesser species existed only to further their own position and power; beyond that simple fact, Nor'baal had no concern for them or their suffering. It was the most basic tenant of Hutt society: the weak existed to exalt the strong.

Nor'baal licked his lips, a pleased gleam in his green eyes, as he considered the undeniable wisdom of this arrangement. Perhaps he would have been less happy with the deal had the fates not mate him one of the strong, but destiny has been kind to Nor'baal and placed him firmly in the ranks of the Hutt Master Race, shaping him, moulding him into the pinnacle of Hutt greatness, and by extension, Galactic Superiority.

Alas, in his self-indulgence, Nor'baal had missed the bulk of what the preening Jedi had been moaning about. However, it did not matter, for he doubted she had said anything to off-the-rails. He caught the tail-end of her lamentations, where she reiterated the Jedi's insane and deranged belief in altruism, stating they would come to the 'aid of any world that needed it'.

Yet another reminder of the inherent weakness of their order.

He glowered at the Jedi. Pah! he chuckled to himself. No doubt the matronly looking busy body that called herself Grand Master would shudder in terror when realising she was under the gaze of the truest pinnacle of greatness, the most absolute specimen of the Hutt form, Nor'baal!

The Hutt paused as he reflected on what the Jedi had said. <What did you say!> he stamped his heavy hand on the arm of his recliner as he read the transcript provided by one of the translators on hand <"No one is faultless in this war." You impertinent Jedi, I ought to see you tied to the post and flayed for such insolence! The most exalted Hutt Council, who have brought a conclusion to our own intergalactic disputes, without the need for a body such as this, cannot be said to be at fault! Did we not bring to justice the great Durr? We are not the ones bombing worlds; we are not the ones using ancient faiths to justify bloodshed!> his tail slammed into the floor in anger as he continued <Do you offer us insult, Jedi? Are you so addled with self-righteousness that you seek to drag the Clans into the mire with you!>

Lon listened to the arguments and legitimate attempts at freedom that were being presented on both sides. He knew where his loyalties lay, but it still presented an interesting dilemma to the body here.

He measured his words carefully, and considered the best way to say this before Nor'baal launched into a rage. Lon pretty much immediately felt exhausted by the man's tirade, but it was absolutely nothing new in the realm of politics, grandstanding, filibustering, and general arrogance were a constant, and deep down in the are where he certainly wasn't going to admit to, Lon knew that he did much of that as well.

I must voice my concerns over the continued demand for both sides to relinquish the territory they have taken. I see one side of the conflict pushing for that end, and with such demands as a necessity of peace, I fear we push peace further and further from our grasp, he said.

I feel that such demands that clearly heavily favor one side over the other should not become a stipulation on which we base this entire discussion, he said. He doubted it would be popular with either the Jedi or FWA, but it was less likely to push the Empire out of the discussion, something he feared would quickly be done with such demands. Those worlds had been taken with an abundance of resources and spilled blood. Giving them back seemed... unlikely.
