"I asked my dad if he thought I needed to go. He said no, but I should give it a try. So I did, for just 15 minutes. I went in said 'hello' and explained that I drink because I am in love and have screwed up the relationship. Then I walked out." --The Sun 27 October 2006

You're going to take what she says from one quote and claim it as undeniable truth? Have some respect mate.

I've met and grown up with people who have become addicts, it's almost like us trying to kick breathing from our habits for these people. Until you have a little perspective on the matter, don't discuss it. Now people need to get back paying their respects to a talented musican, thank you.

The Sun isn't quite what I'd call reliable....

Shame she (most likely) found out the hard way what drugs do to you. RIP.

The way you said it and the majority of people seem to think is she has constantly been dong drugs and drinking which isn't the case.

She did get clean, still drunk though but then who in music doesn't?

she may have relapsed, we don't know.

I know that addiction is tricky. I know that there are people who struggle with it. But the fact that she sang about not going to rehab really ticks me off. She may not have intended it, but do you know how many people view it as inspiration to not try to get cleaned up? I have seen guys at my college get wasted almost every week without any sort of care of their own safety. I don't know, maybe my experiences have jaded me and made me a stone-hearted prick, but I just don't have patience for people who do stupid things. We're in the 21st century, I doubt that anyone who tries out drugs doesn't know the effects it could have on them.

''Addiction is a disease, one which, until you have experienced it, you cannot appreciate how difficult it is to overcome''

I think that says more then I ever could.

I logged on to FB and saw my friends posting about this. It's very very sad.

Whether it was drugs or suicide or accident or whatever, death is a SAD and TRAGIC thing! No one should feel no sympathy when someone dies. You may not like her or agree with her choices, but at least have enough common decently to say RIP or sympathy for the family. Death is sad.

Do you have any idea how common-place that is? The majority of college students go out and liquor up at least once a week. It's part of the social aspect of college.

Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain all died at 27.

Bit weird......

Very weird. Maybe they just think it's a good age to keel over.):

. . . I really want Kurt Cobain back. . .

His sister remembered him saying he planned on joining the 27 Club when they were growing up if that goes to say anything about it.. Not sure how true it is; but I've read about being said in multiple sources.

I was never really a big fan of her, she always came off to me as being a drug addict/alcohol abuser and her music was based around that. Listened to a few of her songs and never quite got the connection to "Frank Sinatra" and all the other greats they talked about he being like. Makes you wonder if she lived a sober life what she would have been capable of.

RIP Regardless.

Ok.

Such a talented person gone just like that. What a shame, but with all the drug abuse I suppose it was only a matter of time.

Lol?

How is it a disease? Can it be transmited from person to person? How contagious is it? The only way to catch an addiction is to consume a substance that can create either a physcological or physical dependence. Easiest way to avoid this disease is to not consume said substance. If someone has a family history of either drug or alcohol abuse then they have even more reason to avoid the stuff. Show a little back bone and just say no.
:CScool

edit* And for those that say going out and getting wasted is a social aspect, that's just an excuse.

People can feel superior and pretend they have a right to judge, but they never lived her life.

While we shouldn't be dancing on someone's grave, I don't see why we shouldn't have the right to say that she made a lot of really bad decisions, even if we haven't lived her life.

After all, most of us certainly felt like we had a right to judge when Osama died and we certainly haven't lived his life.

RIP.

She made a choice to use drugs, and MAY have suffered the consequences. Wether she died from OD or not I stand by my view on drugs. If I can say no, why can't you? And Viggy, I don't think me not taking drugs makes me somehow magically superior to someone.

No, but acting horribly ignorant when you've probably never tried drugs, don't know what drives people to use them, and have obviously never experienced serious addiction does make you look like you think you're superior.
