[OOC: Open for reasonable opposition. This thread is mainly for Imperial Knight Characters and gives some impact to the Fragmentation of the Empire's territories -- as stated here]

BURNING THE CASTLE
Main Theme

Vena awoke suddenly from a noise inside the Imperial Knight Castle. Her dorm was mostly empty as Imperial Knights travelled through the expanded Empire, which made the sudden sound of rushing footsteps all the more worrying. "What's going on?" she asked no one in particular as the others were just like her only just now waking up from a restless slumber. The Force around the Castle -and inside of it- felt irregular, chaotic and violent. Something was happening and it wasn't a serene meditiation!

After quickly donning her armor, Vena headed out into the courtyard where the cause for the violent chaos became apparent. Treason and revolt.

Several soldiers from the local planetary government looked at the young Imperial Knight with a certain surpise, they were all holding vibro-blades and some of them were bloodied. Their armor was clearly Imperial, yet the symbols had been removed, patched over or scratched from the durasteel. "What are you doing here?" Vena heard herself say despite knowing the answer and why they were using blades instead of blasters. Their intent was to kill the knights in their sleep and not alarm and wake them prematurely by using noisy weapons.

The four of them spread out, their vibro-blades at the ready and an overconfident expression on their faces. They had killed several knights already, so what could this young girl really do to defeat all four of them? Vena would give them that answer as she gathered the Force around her and unclipped the lightsaber from her belt, "You're making a mistake," she warned as the white-plasma of her lightsaber ignited in her right hand. She recognized their stances. They were all trained duelists from the planet Serenno, not doubt taught by the same Fencing Master as Vena had briefly trained under. This was going to be a tough fight, but she had one thing that they hadn't: The Force.

She made the first move as she used the Force to push one of them backwards, before pulling another closer unexpectedly and putting them in an unflanked one-vs-one. The fencer's footing was all wrong due to his unprepared forward movement, so Vena lunged at him, low and directed her lightsaber at his left hipbone. She surprised him sufficiently and pierced through the bone before slashing sideways through his stomach. The look on the man's eyes was that of utter pain and surprise as the girl he underestimated had made short work of him.

There was, however, another reason he'd been surprised and as the remaining three stepped back for a second in hesitation, Vena returned to form, confident that she would be able to come out vicitorious. Soon, however, this confidence evaporated as four more vibro-blade wielding men showed up in the courtyard.

Now the three soldiers chuckled, "She really thought we'd go after the Imperial Knight castle unprepared," one of them said, his confidence returning despite his companion dying silently on the ground before them. Well, kriff... there was no way Vena could win alone against seven highly skilled swordfighters.

"Oh kark it, the bloody thing's caught!" Telly Udon swore as his vibroblade remained stuck in the sleeping Imperial Knight's torso. Damn Whiphids and their thick muscles. The 418 year old heaved and hefted but the blade remained lodged.

The Pau'an had joined this raiding party on the Imperial Knight Castle and, save the stuck sword, it was going according to plan. It was certainly a bold enough target but, having fought everything from CIS battle droids to Imperial stormtroopers over the years, Telly hadn't yet met a foe that couldn't be killed.

Back in his Rebel Alliance days, Telly had been a fan of bold, aggressive tactics. When fighting a numerically superior enemy like the Galactic Empire, catching your opponent by surprise was the only way to achieve victory. That was why Telly had advocated so strongly for attacking the castle head on. The Imperial Knights were used to people bowing down in terror to them. They expected to deal with one of their shuttles being raided or maybe an attempted assassination. Something quick, where the perpetrators could run and hide in the shadows before the big, bad lightsaber wielders came to punish the mischief makers. What they wouldn't expect, Telly figured, was someone walking in their own front door.

Ever since the Sith had attacked Yavin IV, forcing Telly to flee his home, he'd been roaming the galaxy, looking for ways to stir up trouble. His days in the Alliance had given him some experience in seeking out local rabble-rousers and troublemakers and, since landing on this planet, he was delighted to find the local planetary forces were very much not thrilled with their Imperial tenants. All it had taken were a few free rounds at local watering holes and some late night conversation for a raid to be planned. Telly had instructed that those who were most skilled with swords and stealth to join him in attacking the castle at night. Even Force users had to sleep.

The group had split off into two, finding the sleeping chambers and stabbing them as they slumbered. It was grim, brutal work but one that Telly had no compunctions about. He still remembered the sounds of screaming on Yavin and the Utapauan corpses that littered the streets after the Empire had taken over.

With a great pull, he finally dislodged his vibroblade from the Whiphid Knight and joined the other three swordsmen racing down the hall to rejoin the others. Unfortunately, they were met with a startling sight; one of the Imperial Knights was evidently up and had already butchered one of the swordsmen.

"What fun! And here I thought we'd only be killing sleeping Imps today. At her, lads!" Telly shouted, keeping one hand on the hilt of his sword and drawing his pistol with the other.

Lorven traipsed through the streets. The last few days had been particularly tiring, as he had to complete a number of reports that had been handed to him at the last minute. His superiors had sent him to carry out a check of the local authorities, but, almost inevitably, more work had been piled onto him. He sighed. Not too long and then I’ll be away from this rock. The streets were fairly quiet. “Burn it!” The shout pierced through the quiet and jolted Lorven into a state of alertness. He could hear voices and laughter from the next street. Ducking into a side alley, he swiftly followed it to the next street. Peaking around the corner of the alley, he spotted two soldiers from the local government stamping on a flag which sported the Imperial Security Bureau insignia. They appeared to be inebriated and one of the soldiers had what looked like a bottle in their hand.

Lorven wasn’t in his peacekeeper uniform. Instead, he was wearing plain black combat fatigues. His only weapon was his hand blaster, holstered near his left hip. Stepping out from the alley, he called out to the soldiers. “What are you doing!” His voice was authoritative. It didn’t have the desired effect. The soldier holding the bottle hurled it at his head. He was barely able to duck to the side of it. “Soldier!” The surprise was clear in his voice. Drawing his blaster, he set it to stun, took aim and fired at the soldier who had thrown the bottle. A stun blast impacted their chest, sending a surge of energy through their body. Their body slumped to the ground. The other soldier turned to run. Setting the blaster back to its default setting, Lorven fired two shots. The laser bolts cut through the air and burned through the soldiers right thigh. He strolled over to the soldier as they desperately tried to crawl away. Standing over them, he aimed the blaster straight at their head. “You’re going to give me some answers.

The soldier hadn’t taken long to talk. An attack on the imperial knight’s castle. It sounded preposterous, considering what the consequences would be for those involved. Entering the castle proved to be simple because the attackers had cleared a path. Lorven made his way into the castle with his blaster ready. Moving through the hallways, he eventually found himself running into a courtyard. “At her, lads!” His head snapped towards the rallying cry. Multiple soldiers from the local government were charging towards a knight. Raising his blaster, he fired four shots at the soldiers. Three of the shots landed, dropping two of the soldiers.

[OOC: No other Imperial Knights joined to defend their castle]

Serrated vibro-blades seared through flesh as murder and carnage continued in the dead of night. One Imperial Knight managed to raise the alarm, prompting the entire castle to be bathed in sirens and red light and also ruining the attacker's advantage. Most of the damage had, unfortunately, already been done. Dozens of knight lay dead in their bunks or in the hallways.

The Lord-Commander's quarters were breached as the sirens began and to the intense regret of the three defecting Imperial soldiers that had breached it, Wodan didn't seem to be present. "Kriff, I wanted to cut off that Lord-Commander's head." one of them spat in frustration before the trio began trashing the place just because..

Meanwhile Vena felt her own pulse accelerating. She was facing seven skilled swordfighters alone, having just barely woken up form a restless sleep, and then four more showed up. Eleven to one were odds she would never bet on at a Canto Bight casino and even less so with her life literally on the line. She considered for a moment to turn and run into the castle, but then blaster fire came from one of the courtyard's entrances and two of her opponants unexpectedly caught bolts in their back. This surprised everything, giving Vena the opportunity to Force pull another closer and impaling him on her lighsaber.

Then the jig was up completely as the armory on the upper floor of the second building suddenly exploded with a loud BANG and a large part of the castle went up in flames.

The courtyard was suddenly bathed in light and Vena noticed the Pau'an as he gave the others the order to recommence the attack. "Why not attack yourself, old man-" she derided, knowing the long lifespan of the man's species, "-come and take me on in an honorable duel." It was an attempt to force a 1-vs-1 situation where Vena wouldn't be in such a bad disadvantage.

Fashionably late.

Wodan had been travelling back from Dathomir and his meeting with Arla when a panicked call had been patched through to his shuttle as it exited hyperspace above Raxus. The Imperial Knight castle was under attack and seemingly by Imperial or Imperial aligned forces. “Captain, open a line to Warmaster Din.” The captain nodded and shortly a small light appeared on the comm station next to his seat. “Altair @Sreeya, soldiers are attacking the Knight Castle, we require support from the local garrison, most of us are off-world. I am not sure how they got through ISB security to get onto the planet, but we need to act before this gets out of hand or twisted in the public domain.” He wanted to add more, to ask if this attack was actually part of Imperial doctrine, was this their last push to remove any stain of the Sith Empire from their history. Wodan also wanted to talk to the man, so much had and hadn’t happened in the past few weeks and they hadn’t spoken for a long time, they needed to speak, Wodan needed to speak.

Turning his mind away from his friend he caught the first glimpses of fire from the Castle below. He was concerned about the young lives caught up in his ambush, the children that had escaped the indoctrination and cruelty of the Sith to be gutted in their sleep by zealous soldiers. Anger began to fill the Lord Commander as they approached, the Shards clinking around his neck responding in kind, pulsating in rhythm to the ambient Force Energy flowing off the Imperial Knight.

Wodan spotted a single Knight in the courtyard soldiers circling around her. “There.” He shouted, stepping up into the cockpit next to the pilot. He had him hover over the courtyard itself.

In the black sky above the burning castle, the dark metal of the shuttle appeared through the smoke. Those underneath would hear the roar of its engines as it came to a hover over the courtyard. Blaster Fire began to plunge into the shuttles armoured underside, from the side a single door opened shining light from the cabin, illuminating the Lord Commander, a saber in each hand.

Stepping off the edge of the shuttle, he ignited both blades, his left was a yellow blade like most of his Knight brethren. The right however was a bright blue, a blade he had found on a backwards dustball far from Raxus. The Force flowed through the Lord Commander as he plummeted to the ground, using the mystic force to cushion his fall as he came to a stop just in front of Knight Lann. “I am sorry I am late.” He said over his shoulder as he raised both blades.

Sometimes, curses could also count as blessings, because while any other night Nicolae would curse the galaxy for his nature, for the sleepless nights he had whenever he had not made time to take a trip outside of the Sith Empire in order to feed were long and grueling, it had saved his life this time. Reinvigorated after feasting on the traitor that had just stabbed the knight that slept next to him, Nicolae cut off his head with his lightsaber as to make it more natural before leaving his room.

His next destination would be the commander's headquarter as he had heard hurried footsteps go that way. Nicolae knew that he was supposed to return soon and decided that it was a good idea to check in just in case he had arrived sooner than expected, the last thing they needed was a dead Commander in a moment like this.

Nicolae quietly peeked inside the commander's room as he saw three men thrasing it and talking about how a shame it was that the Lord Commander was not there. Seeing that the room was going to need to be repaired regardless Nicolae called upon the force to bring down a heavy bookshelf on top of one of them, taking him out. After that, Nicolade decided to enter the scene, confidenttly walking in as the purple light of his saber began to illuminate the room "Gentlemen, don't worry, even if the commander isn't here you're still in good company." The Anzati said with a toothy grin, one hand behind his back as he prepared himself to fight the two of them...He was still hungry.

"Captain Udon, enemy reinforcements are arriving" Telly's wrist communicator would ding as the smoke and flames billowed around the Pau'an and their foes. The old rebel grinned as he saw the armory explode from above.

Win or lose, the Imperials would not soon forget this night. He quickly activated the location tracker on his wrist comm with a push of his button. If the Imps were coming, then the small force they had here would not be enough to repel the reinforcements. In minutes, Telly's Lambda shuttle that he'd stolen from the Sith on Yavin would be here with an extraction crew.

They just had to survive until then.

"I don't need another woman telling me what to do - I have a wife. Get her lads!" Telly reiterated the order. The remaining bunch of swordsmen fell upon Vena with practiced grace and skill, taking great care not to step on one another's attack.

That left Telly to deal with the trigger-happy lieutenant who had inconveniently arrived. Whirling around, Telly would fire five rounds from his pistol at Lorven's direction, using suppressing fire to force the man to cover or retreat. His eyes stung as he fought - the smoke and crumbling debris was making the battlefield harder for everyone to fight.

The two soldiers dropped to the floor, cut down by the shots Lorven had fired. Some of the other soldiers stopped in their tracks, turning to face Lorven. Damn. He hadn’t taken time to think about his actions. He wasn’t really equipped for a confrontation, and he was heavily outnumbered. Bang. The sound of an explosion tore through the air, causing a split-second distraction. He kept his attention on the group of soldiers, his blaster trained on them. They seemed to be led by the very tall Pau’an, who cut an imposing figure.

Before the soldiers had a chance to attack, the rumble of ship engines drew everyone’s attention. A large shuttle hovered over the courtyard. Keeping one eye on the group of soldiers, Lorven was braced for the worst. His worry turned to relief when he saw two Lightsabers ignite above. One of the blades was yellow, the colour used by knights. A volley of blaster fire pelted the bottom of the shuttle. The figure dropped down from the ship, gracefully landing next to the other knight. Lorven recognised the one who had arrived as the commander of the imperial knights.

There wasn’t much time to feel relieved. The towering Pau’an spun around and unleashed a barrage of blaster fire in Lorven’s direction. He threw himself to the side, barely able to make it behind a small waist high brick wall as the blaster fire flew passed him. Taking a second to compose himself, he kept low. Staying crouched behind the wall, which acted as cover, he fired three shots over the top of the wall. He hadn’t looked over the wall as he fired. The shots were only meant as a distraction and he had fired them at what he judged to be the position of the Pau’an.

Undeterred by the arrival of the Lord-Commander of the Imperial Knights, all seven swordsmen attacked. Four of them lunged at the former Sith Master, while the other three attacked Vena. Two on her right and a third on her left, so she used the Force to push the third one back and then turned to the other two.

"For the Empire," Vena cried as she parried one attack with her blade and kicked the sword-hand of the other out of her way. Meanwhile the third was regaining his footing and started to charge her way again, giving her only a moment before she would be attacked from both sides.

A strong pull with the Force as she swiveled forced the one she'd been blade-locked with against the charging soldier as she brought down her saber on the man whose saberhand had just been kicked away from being able to defend in time. The blade burned through his collarbone and ribcage and he fell lifelessly to the ground. Now she was only facing swordfighters from one side.

"Apology accepted, Lord-Commander." Vena grinned at the Firrerreo, forgetting for a moment that many of their fellow knights had been murdered just now. However bad it had looked mere moments ago, with Wodan's arrival there was no way the knights would not come out victorious.

As the four armed soldiers charged towards him, Wodan smiled. Even though these men seemed to be extremists in his eyes he could release all the anger and hate he had at the stuck up Imperials freely. The first was quickly grabbed by The Force, the man clutching at his neck before being thrown aside. The second lunged at Wodan’s side, the Lord Commander parrying to the blade to his right, stepping forward past the man to engage the next two.

One was blocked with his yellow blade, ducking the other and slicing the blue blade up into the guts of the man first. He let out a brief scream before slumping to the ground. Wodan backed off as the man who charged past joined his colleague in attacking. A high block followed by a Force Embedded kick to the knee cap, snapping the joint cleanly sent him tumbling down. Wodan stepped past stabbing him in the back as he took the guy one on one.

The solider who had been thrown to the side was slowly getting up, undecided if he was going to join in the fight or run for his life.

[OOC: Moving it along seeing that both @Fantasy Liver and @DMCK timed out to react to each other's attack.]

With the Lord-Commander fighting by her side, Vena felt much more comfortable and confident in her actions. She used Force telekinesis to grab one of her two assailants by the head and shoved him head-first against his companion just as the latter had been planning to lunge at Vena. "Give up," she felt almost a sort of elation and enjoyment in her own words, as if the idea that she had the strength to easily overpower and even toy with these simple non-Force sensitives gave her distinct pleasure.

She wasn't planning to allow them any quarter, however, and she continued to use to Force to constrict the two men by pulled at one's head to be in the way of the other and then.. then she struck. Lunging herself she drove the point of her lightsaber through the head of the one and into the chest of the other before swinging the white blade side ways and losing her grip with the Force. The both of them fell lifelessly to the ground.

"For the Empire!" she then shouted and heard other Imperial Knights repeat he rallying cry. It had a daunting effect on the defectors who were now realizing their plan -although succesful at first- was failing and their lives all but forfeit.

Some of them now started to run in a desperate attempt to get out of the castle alive, while others desperately lunged at the now awoken Imperial Knights, who dispatched them quite easily. Vena was focused on the Pau'an (@Fantasy Liver) and she stepped closer to the tall figure, "Surrender, Pau'an. If you tell us who is behind this cowardly attack-" she disengaged her lightsaber to appear less threatening, but she also gambled on the fact that the man probably wasn't a Force-user and wouldn't realize she was gathering it around her for an immediate strike if needed. "-you'll be allowed to live."

"Allowed to live? Heh, typical Imp. I don't remember asking your permission for anything." Telly grinned as he was confronted by the Imperial Knight. His companions were quickly being cut down but the castle was burning and he still has a few tricks up his sleeve.

The Lambda shuttle. He'd activated his location tracker minutes ago and that move had now paid off because Telly's shuttle came screaming out of the sky. Having stolen the shuttle from the Imps on Yavin, most of the Imperials would, having recognized one of their own, not react very quickly to it. After all, these were probably just more reinforcements, right?

Wrong.

The shuttle activated its forward and aft cannons as it blasted apart castle wall, Imperial defenders and more. If you were an Imperial, taking cover might prove prudent. As Telly's ship descended, the landing hatch opened up and a defector wielding a repeater began cackling as he contributed more gunfire to the fray. The shuttle didn't quite land but it was hovering as low as it could to give Telly a chance. And the Pau'an took it, climbing up the sloped shuttle wing, and telling his companions to get going as he held on for dear life.

Lorven remained behind cover, occasionally peeking out and taking pot-shots at the attackers. The tide of the battle had changed. The surviving imperial knights were routing the dissidents. The survivors were running for their lives, desperately scrambling to escape the knights. Lorven emerged from cover, gunning down attackers as they fled. The Pau’an seemed to be on the verge of surrender. It’s over. What had seemed a dire situation had turned in their favour. Suddenly, cannon fire tore through the walls of the castle. Debris showered over the courtyard, forcing Lorven to dive to the floor. Looking up from the ground, he could see what appeared to be an imperial shuttle. A defector sprayed blaster fire across the courtyard, from the landing hatch.

The Pau’an took off running towards the ship, and, upon reaching the ship, he began to climb up onto its wing. He was joined by other remaining defectors, clinging to the ship in desperation. Lorven rose to one knee and took aim. Firing at the landing hatch, some of the shots impacted on the repeater wielding defector. Their lifeless body dropped down to the ground below the shuttle. There wasn’t much else that Lorven could do. The knights were the only ones who might have a chance of actually stopping the shuttle.

One on one, the soldier even if he had trained for half his life with a vibroblade was no match for the Lord Commander. A deft faint to one side drew the man’s block slightly and with a rush of Force Energy Wodan crashed his yellow blade into the man’s side, ripping cleanly through, armour, fabric, skin, muscle and bone. He didn’t even let out a cry instead just falling to the ground in a lump of lifeless flesh.

The other man decided to run, but the throw had done something to his right leg so it was more a fast hobble than anything. Not looking to put himself out of position less Vena need his assistance Wodan instead grabbed a piece of nearby debris and flung the fist sized stone towards the fleeing man. If it wasn’t for the fires around Wodan would have heard the snap of the man’s back as the stone crashed into him, he would live although paralyzed from the waist down.

Wodan looked up as explosions rained down across the castle, a shuttle swooping by its lasers opening up. Though like many of the cowardly imperials on the ground, the shuttle’s commander had his blinders on, attacking weak and defenceless targets. So it somehow missed Wodan’s shuttle which still hung around, perhaps it was the black paint in the dark night. As it slowed towards the ground Wodan’s shuttle opened fire on the Lambda, ripping into the side of the vehicle which was concentrating on the ground instead of the air.

It was a good thing Nicolae wouldn't be to blame for making a mess out of Wodan's room since the guards had been thrashing it before he even arrived there, because the Anzat knight certainly didn't make things much better, a minute later, the three buffoons that had come there had been dealt with, but now the lord commander's room was quite broken and three bodies fuller, two of them having bits of them separated from the rest of them while the one crushed by the shelf had a lightsaber hole going through his cranium for good measure. At least there wasn't much in the way of blood, a bit of Nicolae's own from a glancing hit to the side of his body but not something that a couple hours of bacta wouldn't solve.

Nicolae made his way out towards the courtyard, not catching people their way, no more desserters to fight, no knights waking up either, the only steps that he was hearing were those going away...Were they retreating or had they already fulfilled their purpose? The Anzati began to hasten his pace, not taking much in order to reach the courtyard.

There, he found out what was happening: Two knights holding against the main force, one of them being the lord commander himself "Sorry for being late, had to deal with a little problem myself." He said out loud as his purple lightsaber joined that of his fellow knights, smiling at Wodan apologetically, he had taken the smaller forces while leaving him to take care of the rest without realizing...again, it was kind of embarassing, but oh well.

Now they had to take care of the remaining trash.

As the shuttle fired upon the castle, Vena ducked and dashed for the outer edge of the courtyard for cover from the falling debris. The Pau'an tried to escape in a shuttle, disregarding the less-visible shuttle that Lord-Commander arrived in and now that the tide was finally turning in the Imperial's favor it was the target of several blaster bolts and Force attacks. Vena didn't need to add to that and decided to save her own skin first.

She had given the Pau'an a chance to surrender, which wasn't the way of the Sith Order, and as such had -to her own mind- sufficiently proven that she was an Imperial Knight first, and a former Sith acolyte second. Regardless of her proved devotion to the Empire, her new home, the Imperial Knight Castle, seemed to have become unliveable and more graveyard tomb than a barracks for the living.

That was something the higher ups would have to go figure out. The Lord-Commander and the Knight-Captains. One of whom had been late and the others hadn't been here at all. Vena disengaged her lightsaber as she found cover behind one of the pillars of the outer courtyard open perimeter hallway. The corps of an Imperial Knight lay beside her, but she didn't recognize him. Further up lay the corpses of the men that had tried to kill her and all she could recognize where their uniforms. They were former Imperial soldiers alright. That much was certain.

The shuttle in its scramble to extract the surviving defectors, had flown without clocking the other black-painted spacecraft in the area. Fortunately, the defector shuttle pilots had the good sense to continue up the barrage from their forward and aft cannons while Telly and company scrambled aboard. Not only did it damage the castle even further, it also forced the defenders to take cover, thereby ensuring that only the only major damage the ship was taking was from the black shuttle.

Telly, realizing that the shields would only protect against shuttle fire for so long, had a difficult decision to make. And he made it. As soon as he was onboard, he ordered the pilot to retreat, leaving behind the few stragglers left behind in the castle. As Telly's Lambda flew past the now badly-damaged castle walls, the defectors left behind jumped and waved their arms to try and get them to turn back. Realizing it was futile, they then turned to the Imperial Knights and meekly dropped their weapons; a last ditch play for survival.

The Pau'an captain saw all of this in a viewscreen and swallowed hard, grimly looking at the few that did make it onboard.

Not enough. Not nearly enough.

A few minutes later and it started to dawn on the remaining Imperial Knights that the fight was over. Many of their brethren were dead, having been slain in their beds or in the hallways. The fallout of the fight would have its far-reaching consequences as it would be the last time that Lord-Commander Wodan had been seen. The investigation into the events would also spawn a worrisome reality for the new fragile Empire of Altaïr Din as investigations into the attack would lead to evidence of a widespread conspiracy against it.

Without their own home, the Imperial Knights would be forced to move around or be living among the non Force-sensitives in the barracks. Neither was a welcoming thought to Vena, who knew that the rank-and-file of the Imperial army did not like Force sensitives. The memory of the atrocities committed by the Sith Order being too recent to separate the new Imperial knight from the Sith that they used to be.

A black day for the Imperial Knights and a black day for the Empire. Would it also herald it's fall?
