This time when Bel extended his hand, Cheriss was too distracted to think about whether or not to take it. She would let him help her up before she realized what she’d done, but she gave him a nod of thanks nonetheless. What is wrong with me?
Bel’s voice then seemed to come out of nowhere. “Nothing!” she snapped, her expression livid before she quickly calmed herself down when she remembered that Avock was still watching. “It’s nothing.”
She moved forward. The stun bolt’s effects had mostly worn off by now, but a small limp was still evident when she walked. Karking idiots. She glared at the men on the ground, wondering where in the world they were supposed to put them when Avock’s voice came from his office.
“Don’t worry about them! Kill those other snakes before they have a chance to strike! I’ll take care of these ones.” For a moment, she wished she could go back and kill him instead. But if she did, her research would be put to a halt… and Kayden wouldn’t be pleased either. It was best not to dwell on it.
“Any idea where the warehouse is?” she asked Bel, changing the subject as the elevator door opened again. “From what it sounds like it’s likely nearby.”
