Cheriss nodded at Bel’s answer. It wasn’t far off from what she’d expected; from her experience there were few who didn’t want to move up on the hierarchy. His statement about Andruil wasn’t surprising either— she was held in high esteem by many, herself included.
When he redirected the question back at her, she only shrugged. She had only just met him— there was certainly no way she would reveal any of her goals.
“My plan is to serve the empire.” It was true to a degree— while she hadn’t been the most present lately due to a number of issues that had risen up, she’d try to get back into it as soon as she was able. The doctor could still do research on his own, and her partner would certainly keep him in line.
She wouldn’t give him much of a chance to ask anything else, however, as the pair went into the building that was Tonica Corp’s headquarters. While the lights were off in the lobby, it was evident that the floors had been swept, the furniture wiped. It looked as if nothing had even happened, and when they approached the desk, the body was no longer there. Avock did have his resources.
The elevator doors would soon open on the second floor, and at the end of the hall, a half-open door would reveal that the CEO himself was still here. But this time, it was him who greeted them first.
“Ah, you’re back! My men told me all about how you ended that Togruta witch. I apologize for keeping from you that you were being followed, but please, allow me to make up for it by offering you a reward. Anything you ask.” He smiled a wolfish grin. “Within reason, of course.”
