Cheriss nodded at Bel’s answer. It wasn’t far off from what she’d expected; from her experience there were few who didn’t want to move up on the hierarchy. His statement about Andruil wasn’t surprising either— she was held in high esteem by many, herself included.

When he redirected the question back at her, she only shrugged. She had only just met him— there was certainly no way she would reveal any of her goals.

“My plan is to serve the empire.” It was true to a degree— while she hadn’t been the most present lately due to a number of issues that had risen up, she’d try to get back into it as soon as she was able. The doctor could still do research on his own, and her partner would certainly keep him in line.

She wouldn’t give him much of a chance to ask anything else, however, as the pair went into the building that was Tonica Corp’s headquarters. While the lights were off in the lobby, it was evident that the floors had been swept, the furniture wiped. It looked as if nothing had even happened, and when they approached the desk, the body was no longer there. Avock did have his resources.

The elevator doors would soon open on the second floor, and at the end of the hall, a half-open door would reveal that the CEO himself was still here. But this time, it was him who greeted them first.

“Ah, you’re back! My men told me all about how you ended that Togruta witch. I apologize for keeping from you that you were being followed, but please, allow me to make up for it by offering you a reward. Anything you ask.” He smiled a wolfish grin. “Within reason, of course.”

Bel felt a little left out after Cheriss' vague answer. But he couldn't blame her. Privacy was important and they had barely met today, regardless of how Bel felt about her. What kind of service did she plan on doing? Bel said he would've liked to retire from eventually becoming an Imperial Warden, but maybe Cheriss had more subtle plans than that. Though the Nightbrother would've been a good recommended leader, Bel would always follow the Queen of Dathomir.

Still... some small part of the Agent asked him what Empire he was fighting for. There was an announcement given by the Grandmaster of the Jedi a few years back covering just that topic. It boiled Bel's blood, and made him more of a zealous warrior for the next few months. But, Alexandria Voran had a point. It was because of what she said that was true that had initially made him angry. The Empire had improved more lives than it had destroyed.

Before Bel got too philosophical, he gave a nod to Avock after he offered a reward. Bel felt that he owed Mia his word at the very least, and if he made things cheaper, he'd earn more of Ord Mantell's trust.

"I want a seat in this corporations council." This wasn't Bel's first plan, but after everything that went down today, it only made sense. This smaller research station could bump up Bel's public relations drastically with what he had in mind. "Just to keep an eye you. There's going to be some changes that benefit the both of us. If you feel that your job as CEO is being threatened, don't be. I'd rather someone else be the face of this operation while I use my brains." A cruel smile spread across the Zabraki's face.

Avock would give Bel a dip of the head at his request. He didn’t look too pleased, but the Zabrak’s offer of protection seemed to convince him.

“Very well. I can arrange that for you.” Cheriss would wait for him to turn to her, though it was clear now that he was starting to regret making that offer granting them anything they wanted. “And for you, Miss…?”

“Ktrame.” She smiled. “I’d like thirty-five percent ownership of Tonica.” The Siniteen’s eyes bulged.

“Thirty-five? That’s ludicrous!”

“Thirty, then. Remember, this is your life and your reputation that we’re talking about.” Cheriss crossed her arms behind her back. “How would it look if a CEO commissioned two hitmen against private citizens? You may have your media connections, but even they won’t be able to cover that up.” That made him pause. “I’ll even provide you with a loan.” Although that was only for the press to see in case they caught on, with Tonica being a relatively new company that was not publicly traded just yet. It would come out of her own pocket, but surely her research partner wouldn’t mind a little extra spending on his account.

“Fine.” Avock sighed. “You… have my gratitude. I’ll be in touch.” With that, the CEO would dismiss them and return to his desk, leaving Cheriss with Bel outside.

“That wasn’t so bad,”
she commented once they were out of the building again. “You’re a lot tougher than you let on.” She smiled at the Zabrak. Maybe it was because they'd gotten what they wanted that she was in a good mood now, but either way, she thought it right to at least give him some credit. “Thank you for your help, Bel.”

Bel was taken aback by Cheriss' sudden compliments and good graces. Did that mean Bel finally won her over? Or was she just happy to be done with the job? Either way, it made the Agent feel a little better about himself. However, this would only be the beginning of their relationship, he was sure of it. With Bel's place within the corporation, he'd hopefully be seeing a lot more of Cheriss. Ord Mantell was where Bel was the most at home- which was a good thing. Especially if it was going to be apart of the Empire one day.

"Thank you, Cheriss. Though, I knew you wouldn't disappoint." Bel returned the compliment. "But... what really are your plans? You kind of left me hanging with the most basic answer anyone could've given. You're more sophisticated than that. I hope." He smiled after adding in the last bit. Cheriss was very competent from what Bel got from her, and the Agent only thought it would be fair. "As far as Ord Mantell goes, anyway. You don't need to share your devious little plans to rule the Empire just yet."

Bel seemed insistent on knowing more, and she didn’t know if that was a good thing for his sake. She didn’t trust him that much just yet, but she could understand his curiosity.

“Oh, I’ve no intention of taking over the empire. Such a notion would be nothing less than treason,” Cheriss said with a wry smile. She was actually being honest on that. Being at the top was… a lot. There were so many beings hoping for your demise, just as many plotting it, and more who scrutinized every action you took. No, being empress wasn’t what interested her.

“All I’m going to say is, I didn’t ask for your help for nothing, my dear. You’ve more than earned your spot on Avock’s council. As for Ord Mantell…” She glanced at the building next to them. Headquarters of another company. That was what this planet was— a massive trade hub. But she had to look beyond that. She glanced at her datapad, checking for the time. It was getting late, and she saw a message from the doctor once again asking for more test subjects. Apparently all that were left of the last ones were a couple limbs, and she stifled a sigh as she put the device away. “I don’t plan on staying here for long. There are more urgent matters that demand attention.” She didn’t trust her partner to provide that, anyway. His way of solving problems often involved a little more blood and gore than was necessary.

“Should you be interested, agent, there may be a time where I have to call you again. If that day comes, I look forward to working with you a second time.” She smiled before giving him a slight dip of her head. “May the Force make you strong.”
