THEME

Hallowe'en was a widespread holiday, but perhaps there was no planet where the holiday was more widely celebrated than on the planet of Coruscant. The citizens of the ecumenopolis went all out, and it wasn't uncommon for the city's affluent to throw lavish parties in honor of the occasion. The holiday provided them with an opportunity to parade their wealth and less than humble abodes, and it gave the socialites an excuse to get together and party.

Coruscant's working class threw their own parties too, of course, and in Ripley's experience they had more fun than the socialites. The working class might have lacked the gizmos and the funding required to take their parties to the next level, but what they lacked in funding they made up for in heart. The most credits did not necessarily equal the most merriment.

The concept of Hallowe'en was relatively new to the Arkanian, but she had willingly been caught up in the merriment of the holiday since moving to Coruscant and hadn't given it a second thought. Over the years she had attended the lavish Hallowe'en parties and the low-budget parties held in someone's basement or even in the back of their store in the market district. To her own surprise, she usually preferred the latter. Even if the food wasn't as good.

That was what made this party in particular so special. It combined the best of both worlds, the funding of the rich and the simplicity of the working class. One of Coruscant's upper echelon had thrown a lavish party but opened it up to the public. It was revolutionary, or at least that was what people were saying. This generous benefactor had even gone so far as to open up their own mansion. People had poured into the home and into the adjacent courtyard, where the party was being held. The courtyard's large, ornate gates had been opened to allow anyone passing by to walk in off the streets and join in the fun.

The host or hostess had outdone themselves and spared no expense on the food and decorations. Paper lanterns designed to look like pumpkins hung from tree to tree. Jack-o'-lanterns were placed in every nook and cranny and on every table, each pumpkin carved into a unique design. The New Republic's starburst insignia was carved into some, the face of Coruscant's Senator into others. Still other Jack-o'-lanterns had been fashioned into the likeness of celebrities.

Rich Magnum, Voren Dhur, and everyone's favorite singing Jawa Klepti Uutkik were just a few of the faces featured. Artificial cobwebs were wrapped across tables and chairs, and even the service droids had been dressed up to look like scarecrows. The entire courtyard was draped in the glow of orange and purple lights while people of every species and class mingled to the sound of Hallowe'en music.

The deciscion to attend this party had been last minute, so Ripley had not come in costume. Scanning the crowd, she realized she wasn't alone in that aspect. While some partygoers had donned their favorite costumes, others had come in their every day clothes.

The Arkanian's twin brother had already disappeared into the crowd, abandoning her for the first pretty face he'd spotted. The siblings hadn't even arrived a minute ago, and already he had ditched her for another girl.

Typical.

"Excuse me, miss?" the service droid to her left addressed her from behind a table. Arranged across the table were vintage masks, each bearing the face of the rich and famous. Namely politicians, holofilm stars, and celebrities. "Would you like a mask?"

Ripley scanned the selections available, her white eyes wandering over the familiar faces. Some were strikingly similar to their owners, others with comically exaggerated features intended to mock. The new Chancellor, the ISC President, a Hutt Ball player simply labeled Mr. Macho, and Preef Callo were just a few of the faces present. Ripley raised an eyebrow at the sight of the infamous Rodian.

Since when do they make costumes for criminals?

She reached for the mask closest to her, securing the string around her head and pulling the mask of the new Chancellor down over her face. Ripley didn’t keep up with politics, but even she’d heard the comparisons being made to Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine.

"How do I look?" she asked idly.

"Very nice, miss," the service droid replied, naturally programed to be polite to all the guests.

"Excellent." Ripley turned, ready to join in the festivities and hoping the food would be good.

Halloween social open to anyone and everyone, regardless of faction :)

For once in her life, Marcella actually managed to get herself out of her own apartment and to a party without being late. Normally, Marcella is the last one through the door, but on this instance she had arrived just after it had started. She saw another woman standing around and noticed she was wearing a strange mask. This reminded Marcella about her own. She enjoyed the anonymity that masks gave her when she was at parties like these. She attached her purple mask and headed on into the room.

Of course, Marcella headed straight for the food. She was starving after all. She picked up a paper plate and browsed the food stand whilst keeping an eye on the other woman. She didn't recognise her at all, normally Marcella could tell who a person was by their outfit or hair, she was good at those sorts of things. Memorising key features of a person was one of her best assets. It helped her to remember the names of all sorts of people, no matter their background. She picked up the tongs in one hand and plopped a piece of sausage plait onto her plate, a quiche of some kind and a few pieces of cheese as well as some crackers. That would be enough to start with, she could always come back for seconds.

She shuffled away from the table and headed towards the centre of the room. She debated on engaging with the woman ahead of her, but Marcella's anxiousness got the best of her. She found a chair and sat down before she began to eat her food whilst she observed the surrondings.

Perhaps he had gone a bit overboard, but that was fine. Cinere enjoyed being over-dressed. Even if "over-dressed" meant you looked like a massive dark Force entity while those around you are wearing Jawa costumes and masks with Emil Ro's face on them.

This thought hit him just as he was making his way to the gates of the mansion, set in one of Coruscant's many nicer neighborhoods. He admired the privacy of this place, the plants and bushes that encased the perimeter in what seemed to be a protective shield from the noises and peering eyes of the outside world.

He passed through the crowd of people that had gathered, cutting through the line like a hot knife through butter thanks to his arguably-horrifying costume, a sort of eldritch abomination with the skull of what seemed to be some sort of livestock creature. The skull was indeed real, and bleached white until it seemed to almost glow, even in darkness. Fortunately for Cin, there was space beneath the mask for him to slide a straw through or even smoke a cigarette, which ensured he would not have to reveal his face to anyone.

Hallowe'en was his favorite holiday, so it wasn't like he could miss something like this. And despite the fact that the holiday was celebrated at different times around the Galaxy, they were all clustered together on the calendar, which ensured he'd be able to go on a Hallowe'en trip from Coruscant to Korriban and even have a few party stops on the way. In a way, this was a pregame to get the next month of celebrating into motion.

He grabbed a blood-red drink off a tray, black mist swirling in the glass and overflowing onto his hands. Cinere stuck a wooden straw inside and got to drinking, standing right at one of the many refreshment tables, his eyes on the people around him, looking at the costumes.

Ripley pushed her way through the crowd, beelining for the refreshments table. She reached over a partygoer dressed up like Lil Klepti and grabbed some orange drink bubbling over with foam. The Lil Klepti impersonator mumbled something rude under its breath to her, and Ripley had to wonder if it was actually a Jawa or some other kind of creature hidden away beneath that brown hood.

Then don't stand in the way next time, you little womp rat, she thought to herself.

Ripley turned to face the rest of the partygoers, her white eyes scanning the courtyard for any signs of her brother. There was no trace of the Arkanian, but her eyes did land on a woman seated toward the center of the courtyard wearing a top hat.

Her brown hair was pulled up into some sort of updo tucked beneath her hat, most likely a bun. She was attractive, so undoubtedly Ripley's brother would be making his way to her at some point or another. Ryker never could resist a pretty face. If he didn't show his own face soon, Ripley would make her way over to the woman.

A man dressed all in black appeared beside Ripley at the refreshments table, momentarily drawing her attention away. Tall and dressed in some dark, eldritch costume with a horned mask bleached white, he was difficult to ignore.

Surrounded by Emryc Thorne impersonators and women dressed up like their favorite holofilm stars, this partygoer definitely stood out of the crowd. He was sipping a blood red drink through a straw, and Ripley couldn't help but chuckle.

"The straw takes away from the scary vibe you have going," she commented.

Kotii was keen to see how the upper echelons of the Coruscanti classes lived. The fair skinned Mandalorian of Echani and Corellian descent wore black suit with a dragonscale pattern across it. Normally covering his lower mouth was his black face mask but instead of a helmet covering the rest of the disguised Mandalorian's head, he had a mask covering the rest of his face. The mask had the added function of having a filter which had helped with some of the 'city smell' that Coruscant had even in the more ostentatious areas. In addition it altered his voice somewhat to be slightly warped and not recognizable. A set of classy cufflinkys were added as accessories to match the draconic ensemble.

The badger was never one to shy away from a good party, even when it came to being around outsiders. Changing his appearance allowed him to let loose and what better occasion than Hallowe'en. The Mandalorian had on his normal black magnagloves and carried a flashlight. However if anybody searched him they would find out it was a stun glowrod. Nothing too out of the ordinary for a traveling coruscanti aristocrat. Kotii left all of his normal weaponry back on his ship for the night.

Arriving in time to pass by a table where an arkanian woman was commenting on a scary costume, Kotii could only smile at the comment. He tried thinking of how often he drank from a straw in his beskar'gram. But tonight he was going to start off with a glass of dragonjuice because he had to be on theme tonight. The goofiness and mescheviousness kept a persistent grin going underneath the two layers of masks the Mandalorian wore.

Even if people looked and stared at him they wouldn't know who he was. Even if he spoke, they would not recognize his voice from the broadcasts in Mandalorian space. The tall 'black arkanian dragon' waited patiently, tapping his cybernetic hand to the beat at the edge of the counter until his drink eventually came from the bartender. "I'll have a straw please. Orange if you've got it."
