Ossus.
Twenty-six thousand years of Jedi history could be traced back to this one planet and Jedi Master Ebberla Daw could feel it. It originated as a home for meditation and learning, establishing many of the philosophies the Jedi follow to this day. The ruins of the temple they now walked had been built over millennia’s of temples before then, stretching as far as only an outpost to complex of halls of the Great Ossus Library to the reestablished temple by Luke Skywalker after the Great Jedi Purge. It all laid here, in the soil, the air, the trees, and animals.
The world itself was significant not only as almost a sacred point for the firm Jedi follower, but also turning points, events of rebirth and death also lingered here. It is where the Jedi of 14,000 years ago saw the fall of Jedi Grandmaster Banik Kelrada by the manipulation of Sarina Lightell and resulted in the creation of the Ospion Guardians, who eventually evolved into the Dark Jedi of the Bogan. It was here where Jedi Odan-Urr founded the Great Jedi Library only to meet its demise by Sith Lord Exar Kun’s creation of a cataclysm within the destruction of the Cron Cluster.
All life on Ossus was nearly exterminated due to Exar Kun’s weapon, leaving the planet desolate, isolated, and forgotten by all except the survivors of the cataclysm, the Ysanna.
Eventually the Jedi had returned, excavating archeological foundations, looking for pieces of history that they could once again archive for future generations of Jedi to come.
It wasn’t until after the Great Jedi Purge did Grandmaster Luke Skywalker, the founder of the New Jedi Order, had come looking for answers, clues to rebuild the Jedi order. The task was not easy to reclaim Ossus, still haunted by remnants of the Empire, but Skywalker prevailed and with assistance by the Ysanna, they begun piecing together clues to the Jedi Order’s past.
The Jedi Academy was reestablished during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, but following the Second Galactic Civil War, the Jedi left. Eventually they returned once more up until the Third Jedi Purge where the Sith invaded once again, the temple remaining in ruins.
Ebberla Daw along with Jedi Master Ayva Starfall and Jedi Knight Patrick Donnelly walked across the aged rubble, now over-grown with an assortment of plant life and eroded down to what looked to be an awkward hill amongst flat forested terrain. The Council had suggested a team of Jedi scout out the ancient temple, looking for remnants of well…anything, if anything was still left. As so far they haven’t found a thing, only a mound, and if there was an entrance to perhaps lower levels, they would need to bring in heavy equipment, and that was only if it wasn’t filled with soil and rock.
The sun was beginning to set; shadows were now crossing across the tree tops touching Ebberla, giving her nontraditional Jedi fatigues a striped pattern. The birds were beginning to sing their evening tune and a cool breeze begun to pick up signaling a transition from day to night. Her attention took her to her colleagues, her eyes looking passed them at clearing, still miles away where their ship sat, and opened her mouth to speak, but only to have the Force silence her.
There was a disturbance.
A ripple had crashed against the Corellian, she didn’t have to search for who was causing it, it was instinct in such dark times to know. Guests were soon to come.
Ossus sat on the edge of the Galactic Alliance and Sith territories, the world was meaningless politically, but for the Jedi, it was significant, and for the Sith, it was another opportunity to break the Jedi. Though she was positive the Sith probably already sensed the Jedi presence on Ossus, Ebberla slowly decreased her presence, immersing herself in the Force’s ripples to hide herself.
“I have a bad feeling about this.” Ebberla spoke to them, positive they would have felt it too.
