If we did clear out some of the inactive accounts, wouldn't new names would be available again?

Like I said, if a name is already taken, people can choose a new name. If you create an account on a website, that creates an expectation that the account will be there anytime you want to use it. Plus, I can't remember having anyone tell me here that they were going to use a name but discovered it was already taken.

I have yet to see an actual problem identified to justify deleting old accounts.

The reason there's no space in my name is because The Doctor was taken, actually. It's always been kind of annoying given that the guy who took it hasn't been on in years.

That's a minor annoyance, not an actual problem.

If the sight begins to lag at some point in the future, I think it would be interesting if there was an incursion of sorts. Have some large powerful, either fan made or canon, species suddenly appear in this galaxy and begin to conquer worlds and generally cause lots of mayhem. It would have to be a compley NPC faction, controlled by a few experienced SWRP members or Admins. The NPC faction would need to be big enough to force all sides into a hasty alliance. Lot's of oportunities for espionage and backstabbing between factions.

Here's something to throw out that's in this same light --

What would you guys think of the staff throwing curve balls into the RP every once and awhile that factions and characters would unexpectedly have to deal with?

For example, a famine could sweep across a major planet. An asteroid could be headed towards a moon base. A supernova could threaten nearby star systems. Etc. Etc. Etc.

It gives people new things to deal with that otherwise wouldn't have happened, and the reactions to these things could potentially help determine the course of the timeline.

We wouldn't do things in favor of any particular faction, though, at least not on purpose.

Yeah, something along those lines. I like games that include these kind of curveballs, just to mix things up a little bit. Force you to react to something unexpected.

Yeah. And just to clarify, that wouldn't be if the RP starts to lag. It could be during the height of the timeline's activity. It would be totally random.

So, basically a fanon species pops in, only it's random and is controlled by admins and veterans who are trusted to be fair but tough. Sounds awesome, IMO.

I like the other stuff too... a bit. Moon base, lul

I would love for you to do this. Even if it extended to just happeneing randomly in people's RP's that it was going to happen for that planet.

I would rather steer clear of this. I'm down for smaller events, but a supernova? No thanks, I remember dealing with these events in the height of roleplays that were booming. It's done some good in creating interesting situations, but most of the time they really just end up hampering things.
