“This isn’t a petting zoo!” cried the dancer as she engaged in a tug of war with a drunken human man on the opposite end of her garment. The twi’lek fell back as her skirt shredded and landed roughly on the stage, glaring at him with the vexing slits of her Iris’ adrift in the yellow of her eyes.

An older gentlemen came to her rescue just as the bouncer ushered out the inebriated Blonde. An aging human with white hair and a slightly plump but clean shaven face.

She took his hand in hers and muttered thanks as she got to her feet.

“Easy now...” He said.

She responded by pushing past his shoulders and angrily storming off into the back room.

He followed, his white robes trailing behind.

She hastily changed and shouted back from around the corner:

“I’m on break!” She pulled her top over her shoulders and wrapped herself in a coat, scowling at her companion who quickly turned his back.

“I’m on break.” she repeated defensively in a lower tone, peeling off her gloves and throwing them to the floor as she again passed him by.
“I-I’ll get you a drink.” he offered, running off to do so before she could refuse. By the time she turned to gently protest he was on his way.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nar Shadda was a city planet. Its crime infested towers scoured the land and filled the air with choking pollution- but the ground was far more tainted in its own right. Crooks and criminals crawled like bottom feeders and made the lower city a beehive of danger.

Which is why the elderly human, with his kindly face and white garments, was so out of place. He was clean and decent with the healthy glow of one accustom to stability and accomplishment.

It made Vaiper uncomfortable.

“You look a little young to be dancing,” he began, fidgeting with his drink- non alcoholic as was his custom

“Yes I do look a little young..” she said, stroking her quadruple Lekku with a curious expression. He intrigued her and if he was as wealthy as she expected she wanted to return the favor.

“But Alas I just turned 19.”

“That’s young to me.” he laughed politely.

“but how long have you been doing this?”

She quieted and stared into his eyes with discomfort.

“Ok, never mind that!” he corrected himself.

She smiled to herself and leaned on her elbow. From her name to her facial structure, everything belonging to Vaiper resembled a serpent. Her nose was small and nearly smooth and her cheek bones pronounced with a small delicate mouth. Her skin was tight and earthy green and her eyes a reptilian bronze with lemon yellow “whites”.

“Where are you from, brother human?” she asked.

“Oh.” he seemed taken aback. He twisted a lock of his fair hair and smirked.

“I’m from a little bit of everywhere…” He silently implored her identity.

“I’m not allowed to give customers my name…” she explained, turning one of her palms flat to convey her apologies.

“I understand..” the human trailed off.

“You remind me of a girl I used to know…” He said, reaching for her face.

She wasn’t threatened but recoiled none the less as he held her cheek. He was harmless but her instinct demanded wariness

“What a pity.” He clicked his tongue.

As he took his leave she rose to meet him.

“Here!” he said, tossing her a large purse.

She reached down and caught it, opening to find a vast amount of credits. At least a weeks pay…

Before she could speak he winked and went for the door.

She smiled and shook her head.

------------------------------------------------------------

“No.” insisted her furrowed employer.

“he’s a good customer and I won’t have you stealing from him!” He swiped his hand, striking her own and sending the credits scattering on the floor. Vaiper stood firm, staring him down as her mouth tightened and her eyes heated.

“Go out back and give him his money!” he huffed.

“alright…calm yourself.” The dancer hissed. She gathered up her pay and turned towards the door, letting her Lekku whip his face as she departed.

As Vaiper exited to the back ally her brain repeated strings of curses directed at her boss. The credits were meant for her- she had been given them and yet he insisted she was undeserving through a veil of treachery. She squinted as the neon lights outside blared down accusingly and slowly stepped down the trio of stairs with irritation plaguing her heart.

'I have to get out of this place…' she thought. The only thing that kept her anchored to the planet was Sillowe. The girl was like family and they lacked the funds to travel together and make a stable existence. Unlike the twi’lek, Sillowe had her old man to care for- she couldn’t leave him, which was why business was so slow tonight. She couldn’t leave him. Vaiper was solo for the first time in three years.
In the distance she quickly made out the credit’s owner. Tucked away at the dark end of the street he stood idle as if awaiting her presence. His head was lowered, something about his stance wasn’t natural.

“Sir!” She beckoned. His head turn towards her and his knees buckled, his silhouette falling as if in prayer.

She ran to him as quickly as her feet would carry her, something was wrong, he was hurt. When she reached him she recoiled in shock, dropping the credits to the floor.

--------------------------------------

She held her wrist staring at the downed man with alarm. It quickly escalated to full blown panic and she turned to flee.

“I’ll go get help!” She whimpered. He firmly caught her by the wrist.

“No…” he said.

The man was sliced open, his innards held in his stomach solely by his own hands. His life’s blood stained the street and ran in the gutters, seeping where he traded his breathe for words- exchanging precious time for conveying a feeling.

Pulling her gently to him the twi’lek knelt by his side. Her reptilian Iris’ flooding with unease.

“My son…Is on Tatooine” He croaked between pained pauses. “In anchorhead, give this to him.” he reached inside his coat but the twi’lek caught his hand, looking into his eyes pleadingly. He returned the gaze, his breathing labored.

“If you do this…” He titled back his head with agony, pulled forth a light saber hilt and held it out for her to take

No!” She protested, pulling away from him and lifting her hands.

“No- No I can’t-”

“If you do this,” he resumed, his shirt dyed completely crimson.

“ Once you’ve given it to him…Go to the weary Traveler, talk to the keep- the password is my sons name.” he lifted his hand limply offering her the saber.

Vaiper’s mind was a maelstrom. Her heart pounded like a rock drill- she couldn’t go to Tatooine! What had she just witnessed? If someone were to see she could be blamed for the old man’s death, covered in his blood- with his saber no less!….His saber. Could it be he was a jedi? She didn’t know but the weapons very presence made her uneasy. Light saber’s were dangerous, she had no experience with them and across her minds eye flashed a worst case scenario involving decapitation.

Then she looked at the human. He had been so kind to her, just moments earlier he’d been smiling and alive. Someone had slain him like an animal and the fact she was considering denying him his final request sickened her.

She allowed the saber to fall in her hand and she watched as he passed.

His body growing cold at her side.

“Tatooine…”

------------------------------

For the first time the night seemed still. Like the moon had fallen from the sky and silenced all below. The dancer paced. She leaned her forehead against the cool texture of the ally’s wall and collected her thoughts. The Saber was clenched in her fist. She’d never seen another living thing die in her arms before and the sensation was unsettling. More then that, she feared what would happen next. If anyone had seen her she would be suspected of his murder, she couldn’t flee the alley without being seen and too much time had passed to- she stopped.

Someone else was in her midst.

She turned to meet them, concealing the jedi blade.

Whistles could be heard. Footsteps and whistles. An empty backalley where the silence was ended by the footsteps and the whistles, coming from a young Human man. He looked younger than he was, as he was 21 years old. His black eyes sparkled as a few streetlights shone bright up ahead.

His hands were in the pockets of his baggy pants, and he looked innocent and friendly. He carried no weapons and whenever he got into trouble, he ran for it. He had become one fast, skilled, goodlooking thief.

His scarf danced in the wind that genly blew through the alley, and as he turned around a corner, he stood still and stared in awe. What he saw was something that would be forever on his mind. A dying elder human male, and a young Twi'lek girl standing near him. He saw this man handing something over to the Twi'lek, but what it was, he could not see.

He was afraid, but curious as well. The curiousity was stronger than his fear though, and slowly, step by step, he walked towards the girl and said: "Uhm... hey... Wh.. What happened?"

If she was one of those Jedi people, he would sure make a run for it and disappear in the many streets of Nar Shaddaa. He had been here for months and he knew the city pretty well.

Vaiper whipped around to the voice’s owner.

“I- I…” She looked down to see the pool of blood flowing from the corpse and surrounding her shoes, stepping back she looked up again into the face of a young human man.

“I did nothing!” She shouted, her palms were stained with sanguine.

"What have you seen?"

"Nothing... I just came around the corner and saw him dead... I... Are you ok?" Anxiety could be heard in the young Human's voice. He looked at the Twi'lek, tilting his head slightly. His hands left the pockets of his baggy pants and he crossed his arms. It was a little awkward for him though, to stand there near a dead body, and with a girl who could have been the killer. She claimed to be innocent, and she had not the look of a killer. The thief had met killers, males and females, and they all had that strange look in their eyes from which he could tell they were murderers. This girl did not have that look in her eyes.

His eyes were dark and full of curiosity. An idea struck and She suddenly pulled out the light saber hilt and forced it upon him desperately.

"here!" she hissed.

"T-take this! I want nothing to do with it!"

He stepped back and raised his hands, and he took a 'don't-shoot-me' pose. He shook his head and said: "No way! What's that? A lasersword? I won't touch it! What do I have to do with this?"

After he said that he lowered his arms again, and took one more step back. Something heavy had happened here. Something very bloody. He glanced over at the body and then back to the Twi'lek girl. "What's happened?" He asked.

The serpentine’s features smoothed. She lowered her arm and let her lips stay parted.

“I’m note sure- he was just in the club- I came to find him and when I did…” She looked down and drew in a sharp breath.

“Someone slew him!” she cried.

“I didn’t see! I was too late! I don’t even know who he is…”

She glanced back up, her eyes sharp and accusing.

"but now you've seen him too and I cannot be held at fault!"

"Hey..." He said. His voice sounded gentle and he tried to calm her. He stepped over to her and reached out his hand and took the saber. "Ok, I'll take it." He said. He let the saber slide into his pocket and then looked her in the eyes.

"Easy now. It's all gonna be alright." He took her hand and then turned around and pulled her away from the dead man. "We'd better get moving now. This is Nar Shaddaa. If anyone sees us here, we're screwed. Let's go somewhere... save. Where you can explain everything and where you can calm down... Is that ok with you? Or do you want me to leave?"

Vaiper had a natural distaste for men. She was attracted to them, yes but she saw them as feeble minded and fickle. She let her hand stay limp as her new companion took it.

Her features smoothed.

“I have a room in-”

Blaster fire suddenly broke her concentration and she narrow dodged a shot close enough to stick her through.

He wasn’t the most experienced of killers but he craved blood like any one bold enough to consummate their desires. Rake was a Jedi killer.

He scoured Nar Shadda on a nightly basis, picking off old retirees and deserters.

Their sabers were his trophy and this night he’d forgotten to claim it.

His target had been disappointing. He was quiet and weak, feeble…

Not the Kiffar’s norm.

As he back tracked through the crowd he turned the corner only to take cover.

Someone had discovered the body. He cursed under his breath- he hadn’t taken a Padawan into consideration but there stood a twi’lek- his prize in hand. How else could she have entered the scene if not for some sort of bond?

The man had been slow but his ward was young….a challenge.

As he peered from his hiding place again- ready to put her down before she could draw another breath he was again denied.

He was out numbered.

This time a human was at the fallen warriors side.

‘No matter,’ he thought. After all it was only fair he’d find a bit of friction after such an simple job.

He took a shot at the girl-

"Holy shit!" The thief shouted and he said to the Twi'lek: "We'd better make a run for it, yo! C'mon! To your room, or where ever you wanted to go! At least somewhere save!"

He let go of her hand and then turned around to run. He of course would wait for her, if anything should happen, but for now he ran. Not as quick as he could, for he would outrun her for sure and that was not something he wanted this time.

Blaster shots rang out as the two fled and ebbed as they merged with the crowds.

“Dammit!” grumbled the hunter. He gritted his teeth and hit his thigh with his fist.

“I need back up….” he growled into a wrist com and with that he followed after the pair.
Leave no witnesses….

------------------------------

Vaiper took off running by the human’s side. Blaster beams bounced all through the ally and the club’s back door slammed open with her boss in its wake.

“Junior!” he bellowed, shutting the entrance momentarily as a shot got dangerously close.

“What the hell are you doing!?” his eyes roamed over the dead body and he screamed.

"Is he dead!?"

“I quit!” The twi’lek cried as she exited.

“what is going on!” she shouted, the masses splitting as she passed, saber in hand.

Her room wasn’t nearly far enough as she wished- if someone was chasing them she’d prefer to be miles away- on the bright side, for the first time she had a guest and her biggest worries weren’t about the mess…

she bounded through the throngs.

The young thief followed after the Twi'lek. He had been chased before, by hordes of men, trying to gun him down. The excitement of it all was familiar to him, and he would even enjoy it at times. It was probably adrenaline, or something else. However, he was a fast lad, and he always managed to outrun those who wanted to shoot or catch him.

He remained silent and still followed the girl.

From the second floor of a nearby window, Dai'kon watched as the old man was killed, brutally, and the hunters left. He did not say a word as it happened; he just watched silently, unflinching, through his dark brown cloak he had over him, which slightly rustled in the wind breezing through the city's labyrinth.

He old man was a Jedi, he had known that. He had seen him before, multiple times, as their kind were like beacons for his sight. Literally, beacons of white-blue lights, and it was hard to not notice, even on Nar Shaada where one could get lost...if the right people weren't looking for you. Obviously, this Jedi had found the right people. He was mainly watching to see what would happen, without a real vested interest in it, until the Jedi involved someone in it. That someone was clearly given the task of delivering this lightsaber for a reason. He focused on the girl, and saw a muffled, but definitely present glow with the faintest bit of light in her core.

"So, she has been informed of her force presence. That much is clear." He mused to himself, scratching his chin lightly with his gloved fingers. "And this Jedi gave her this kind of task? The force has presented me with another play."

The Hunters came back-this time to the girl and this new, relatively unimportant guy. Clearly, they were not okay with this, as the leader of the pack began to fire. He was a good shot- he had to be to take on Jedi- but he missed by a hair on at least three of his multiple shots. Enough for Dai'kon to raise both his eyebrows in surprise. As the two companions ran back inside where the Jedi and the girl came from, and the Hunter back now chasing after, Dai'kon jumped down from the small balcony onto the "ground level". He casually followed them into the club, oh-so curious as to how it would play out, and what would happen to this deed bestowed onto two seemingly random characters in the forces grand play. His cloak rippled with his increasing pace as he sped up to witness the entire scene at hand.

The twi’lek slide to a stop around a corner and wedged herself into the back lot, opening the door with shaky hands.

A dingy stair case inside seemed to ascend until the atmosphere demanded halt.

She jogged upward several levels and back tracked as she passed her room- number 387.

Throwing open the door she stepped into the darkness and called back to the human boy.

“come!” She was panting lightly, The chase leaving her breathless.
She reached for the light when she was seized around her middle by metallic hands, letting out a cry as she was dragged into the darkness.

“baby?” A metallic voice mused.

When the lights flickered on her attacked was revealed to be an old worn down nurse droid, clasping the girl affectionately to her hard frame.

“Nanna! You scrap heap! You’re crushing me!” Vaiper hissed as Nanna nuzzled her cheek making a hard squeaking noise from the friction.

The droid held her closer.

“baby!” She droned, lifting the young woman she had cared for as in infant off the ground. Her old inner workings simply could not register her charge had grown to womanhood.

“Nanna!” The twi’lek cried, her lungs being deflated by the force.

Nanna dropped her to her feet and rushed to the kitchen.

Vaiper hunched over in pain.

“ She doesn’t get out much…” she croaked.

Scratching on the back of his head, and his two eyebrows raised, he looked at the scene. "What a... droid..." He stated and then let out a short laugh.

He stepped further into the room and closed the door. "Uhm... Well..." He said. "My name is Telm. Telm Cord. What's yours? We haven't had the chance to introduce each other yet."

Vaiper rolled the saber hilt into her coat and set it down, moving into the next room she replied as she stepped.

“Vaiper. Burnbrient.” she came to a halt in the kitchen where “Nanna” was heating up a bottle. She scowled in the droids direction and washed her hands.

“You’re very clam considering we both almost breathed our last…” she said snidely looking at Telm from the corner of her eyes. She wasn't sure if inviting him inside her home was the best idea- for all she knew he could have been involved with the murder she'd just witnessed.

"For all that is Sacred, Nanna give it a rest!" She hissed as the old nurse attempted to force the bottle upon her. She shoved the droid back with her elbow.

"Well..." Telm said. "...That's only the outside. I must admit I am scared. But usually, when I'm scared, I act rather calm."

He stepped further and looked into the kitchen, but did not enter it yet. He saw the droid. "Oh, what a droid you have there, miss Burnbrient." He grinned, but he turned serious quickly and asked: "Do you have any idea what the hell has happened there?"

Dai'kon entered through the front door, and sat himself down at a small table as inconspicuous as possible. The need for secrecy was not really an issue, though. The Twi’lek and her new partner had made quite the fuss, and the gang with blasters outside only added fuel to the fire. He was completely unnoticed. As he sat, he pushed himself into a semi-meditative state. He was not very good at telekinesis, and he had to try fairly hard to get his full voice into the minds of others. He reached out with the force, and quickly found the girl. She was easy to pick out because she was force sensitive, which was convenient. He touched her mind with the force, and spoke under his breath, in her mind.

“The lightsaber in your hand is more important than you know. For the hunters, it is their prize. You have stolen their prize, and now they want your head in retribution. For you, this lightsaber is your last link to the force. You may be too old for the Jedi order but you are young for the galaxy. Think smart. You will meet me at the local space port within 30minutes, or you should consider yourself dead to both the force and the real world. Do not be late.” He paused, and considered, then decided with a small sigh. "And, bring your Thief friend you are with. He is not a good man, but has good intentions. He may be important in the time to come."

The last part he emphasized. They were running from Jedi killers, who clearly knew what they were doing. It was by pure luck of the force that they were not dead already. If the girl made it to the space port in 15 minutes, she would be something special. All of this happened by chance, but Dai’kon knew that chance was just another way of saying the force had led him to watch over this situation, and he was a mere pawn in the force’s greater game.

A human waiter came over to him just as he was shaking off his trance, transferring his mind back into reality. She seemed a little hesitant, but that didn’t let her stop from doing her job. However, as she got close, he stood up and asked his question before she could ask hers.

“Do you know where the local space port is?” He asked, blunt and direct.
“Uhh, yes…” She staggered a bit in speech, as it was not what she was expecting. Nonetheless, she answered accordingly after only a moment of hesitation. He plugged the directions into his datapad, said his thanks, and left the bar area. He wouldn’t go directly to the port. First, he had to make sure the Twi’lek and her friend (but mainly the Twi’lek) were able to escape the grasping clutches of the Jedi Hunters. He would watch passively until he felt he was truly needed. She had him in her mind now, she all she had to do was call out to him, which wouldn’t be too hard, even for an untrained force-user.

Vaiper suddenly jolted, holding her temple as if bitten. It was a distinct, familiar feeling she had lost long ago.

She turned to Telm haunted and wordlessly pushed passed. She threw open the counter, stripped and dressed in a Cuirass of white silver. As she pulled the article of armor over her fit frame she unwrapped an old rag- a small stun weapon inside, tucking it away in the elastic of her skirt.- from another drawer she pulled a belt with many small holds and hastily pulled it around her narrow hips.

“The space port!” she exclaimed.

“Come!” She seized her jacket under her arm as she exited.

As the dancer descended the stairs Nanna hung out of the door way calling.

“Shut the door and do not let a soul enter!” she ordered the droid who drooped like a robbed mother
As she lightly stepped, she added the stun weapon to the belt with caution and opened one of its pockets - one by one placing a garrotter’s ring on each finger, like needle point war talons.

“did you feel it?” she asked, turning back for Telm with urgency.

"jedi killers..." she hissed.

"Jedi killers?" Telm asked. "That would make sense... And why the space port? You wanna leave Nar Shaddaa?"

He followed after Vaiper, there was not much else he could do. He was curious to what they would have to face, but also a little scared. Telm was just young adult who roamed the streets and stole to survive, he was not a big hero or a tough mercenary.
