“This isn’t a petting zoo!” cried the dancer as she engaged in a tug of war with a drunken human man on the opposite end of her garment. The twi’lek fell back as her skirt shredded and landed roughly on the stage, glaring at him with the vexing slits of her Iris’ adrift in the yellow of her eyes.
An older gentlemen came to her rescue just as the bouncer ushered out the inebriated Blonde. An aging human with white hair and a slightly plump but clean shaven face.
She took his hand in hers and muttered thanks as she got to her feet.
“Easy now...” He said.
She responded by pushing past his shoulders and angrily storming off into the back room.
He followed, his white robes trailing behind.
She hastily changed and shouted back from around the corner:
“I’m on break!” She pulled her top over her shoulders and wrapped herself in a coat, scowling at her companion who quickly turned his back.
“I’m on break.” she repeated defensively in a lower tone, peeling off her gloves and throwing them to the floor as she again passed him by.
“I-I’ll get you a drink.” he offered, running off to do so before she could refuse. By the time she turned to gently protest he was on his way.

Nar Shadda was a city planet. Its crime infested towers scoured the land and filled the air with choking pollution- but the ground was far more tainted in its own right. Crooks and criminals crawled like bottom feeders and made the lower city a beehive of danger.
Which is why the elderly human, with his kindly face and white garments, was so out of place. He was clean and decent with the healthy glow of one accustom to stability and accomplishment.
It made Vaiper uncomfortable.
“You look a little young to be dancing,” he began, fidgeting with his drink- non alcoholic as was his custom
“Yes I do look a little young..” she said, stroking her quadruple Lekku with a curious expression. He intrigued her and if he was as wealthy as she expected she wanted to return the favor.
“But Alas I just turned 19.”
“That’s young to me.” he laughed politely.
“but how long have you been doing this?”
She quieted and stared into his eyes with discomfort.
“Ok, never mind that!” he corrected himself.
She smiled to herself and leaned on her elbow. From her name to her facial structure, everything belonging to Vaiper resembled a serpent. Her nose was small and nearly smooth and her cheek bones pronounced with a small delicate mouth. Her skin was tight and earthy green and her eyes a reptilian bronze with lemon yellow “whites”.
“Where are you from, brother human?” she asked.
“Oh.” he seemed taken aback. He twisted a lock of his fair hair and smirked.
“I’m from a little bit of everywhere…” He silently implored her identity.
“I’m not allowed to give customers my name…” she explained, turning one of her palms flat to convey her apologies.
“I understand..” the human trailed off.
“You remind me of a girl I used to know…” He said, reaching for her face.
She wasn’t threatened but recoiled none the less as he held her cheek. He was harmless but her instinct demanded wariness
“What a pity.” He clicked his tongue.
As he took his leave she rose to meet him.
“Here!” he said, tossing her a large purse.
She reached down and caught it, opening to find a vast amount of credits. At least a weeks pay…
Before she could speak he winked and went for the door.
She smiled and shook her head.
------------------------------------------------------------
“No.” insisted her furrowed employer.
“he’s a good customer and I won’t have you stealing from him!” He swiped his hand, striking her own and sending the credits scattering on the floor. Vaiper stood firm, staring him down as her mouth tightened and her eyes heated.
“Go out back and give him his money!” he huffed.
“alright…calm yourself.” The dancer hissed. She gathered up her pay and turned towards the door, letting her Lekku whip his face as she departed.
As Vaiper exited to the back ally her brain repeated strings of curses directed at her boss. The credits were meant for her- she had been given them and yet he insisted she was undeserving through a veil of treachery. She squinted as the neon lights outside blared down accusingly and slowly stepped down the trio of stairs with irritation plaguing her heart.
'I have to get out of this place…' she thought. The only thing that kept her anchored to the planet was Sillowe. The girl was like family and they lacked the funds to travel together and make a stable existence. Unlike the twi’lek, Sillowe had her old man to care for- she couldn’t leave him, which was why business was so slow tonight. She couldn’t leave him. Vaiper was solo for the first time in three years.
In the distance she quickly made out the credit’s owner. Tucked away at the dark end of the street he stood idle as if awaiting her presence. His head was lowered, something about his stance wasn’t natural.
“Sir!” She beckoned. His head turn towards her and his knees buckled, his silhouette falling as if in prayer.
She ran to him as quickly as her feet would carry her, something was wrong, he was hurt. When she reached him she recoiled in shock, dropping the credits to the floor.
--------------------------------------
She held her wrist staring at the downed man with alarm. It quickly escalated to full blown panic and she turned to flee.
“I’ll go get help!” She whimpered. He firmly caught her by the wrist.
“No…” he said.
The man was sliced open, his innards held in his stomach solely by his own hands. His life’s blood stained the street and ran in the gutters, seeping where he traded his breathe for words- exchanging precious time for conveying a feeling.
Pulling her gently to him the twi’lek knelt by his side. Her reptilian Iris’ flooding with unease.
“My son…Is on Tatooine” He croaked between pained pauses. “In anchorhead, give this to him.” he reached inside his coat but the twi’lek caught his hand, looking into his eyes pleadingly. He returned the gaze, his breathing labored.
“If you do this…” He titled back his head with agony, pulled forth a light saber hilt and held it out for her to take
“No!” She protested, pulling away from him and lifting her hands.
“No- No I can’t-”
“If you do this,” he resumed, his shirt dyed completely crimson.
“ Once you’ve given it to him…Go to the weary Traveler, talk to the keep- the password is my sons name.” he lifted his hand limply offering her the saber.
Vaiper’s mind was a maelstrom. Her heart pounded like a rock drill- she couldn’t go to Tatooine! What had she just witnessed? If someone were to see she could be blamed for the old man’s death, covered in his blood- with his saber no less!….His saber. Could it be he was a jedi? She didn’t know but the weapons very presence made her uneasy. Light saber’s were dangerous, she had no experience with them and across her minds eye flashed a worst case scenario involving decapitation.
Then she looked at the human. He had been so kind to her, just moments earlier he’d been smiling and alive. Someone had slain him like an animal and the fact she was considering denying him his final request sickened her.
She allowed the saber to fall in her hand and she watched as he passed.
His body growing cold at her side.
“Tatooine…”
------------------------------
For the first time the night seemed still. Like the moon had fallen from the sky and silenced all below. The dancer paced. She leaned her forehead against the cool texture of the ally’s wall and collected her thoughts. The Saber was clenched in her fist. She’d never seen another living thing die in her arms before and the sensation was unsettling. More then that, she feared what would happen next. If anyone had seen her she would be suspected of his murder, she couldn’t flee the alley without being seen and too much time had passed to- she stopped.
Someone else was in her midst.
She turned to meet them, concealing the jedi blade.
