And he's been heavily criticized for it, as well as almost every other writer who's used Deus Ex Machina. I still fail to see how you like that.

Did I not just say I like it for its comedic value?

So much as Deus Ex Machina are sometimes the last hope for a situation to be solved, I very much so loathe returns to a Status Quo as it does nothing but highlight that the wholesome of what just happened prior was a pure waste of time. Alternatively, when it does not result in a status quo and does advance the plot, I still dislike the intervention UNLESS the character and/or device has some further purpose later on in the story or explains prior unsolved points.

Please excuse my ignorance, I do not claim to know perfectly terms of literature if something I said sounded as utterly stupid then do enlighten me.

You're overly long-winded. It could be a product of English being your second (or even third, fourth, fifth, sixth and so on) language, but that doesn't excuse all of it.

So after some careful dissection of that ungodly mess, I think I know what you're saying. In which case I still don't agree with you. Deus Ex Machina's never add anything of worth to a story.

@ Nevermore > I did mention my English was Self-taught and my main was french.

@ Doomsday > The only exception to this would be if the DeM character/device becomes a plot point itself post intervention and/or dramatically changes the course of the story. I'm pretty sure I could write a short in which a Deus Ex could have something interesting to it.

If you like a familiar tone better it's yoru choice.

Nope. I still don't agree. If you can't come up with a plot point that doesn't require an unstoppable force for the direction you want the story to go, than you should come up with a different direction for the story.

Not necessarily. In a Sci-fi setting the quest for the gathering and construction of a Superweapon that will defeat the Near-invincible Big Bad or his PlanetBlower is very valid. in a Fantasy setting, the same could be said for the preparations for the one-time summoning of a Deity/spirit for the same purposes.
