Or they could use all of this cloud computing that they haven't shut up about for the last year in order to generate the content from there instead of driving it solely from our home systems. There are a bunch of different avenues you could take I guess.

Overall, I just want extensive customisation in every aspect of my experience and I want an immersive story. It doesn't even have to be a great story, it just has to be immersive.

Cloud gaming would require the use of their servers. The bulk of the game play would come from the console itself, but multiplayer interaction (if there is any) and progress saving, stat tracking, etc would all be done via their servers. Which EA is notorious for really shitty servers. Especially on opening launch day. ::shivers::

I know, the point still stands, which is why I was talking about using a similar multiplayer system to Dark Souls.

Sort of yeah, you can google it's multiplayer system to find out more about it in detail.

Don't restrict people to being humans only. It's boring. If their reason is "Because players can relate to humans better", then how come games like Elder Scrolls and Mass Effect has me relating and caring for non humans more then humans? Exactly. Go with TOR's choice and have multi species.

So open world then? Well, if we are limited to one world only, maybe two, then make them absolutely diverse and able to explore every nook and cranny we can.

I'd imagine there would maybe a single main plot, but please, PLEASE do not force people to go down and have to be a Jedi with some destiny crap. We don't need another KOTOR story rehash or something like that. If someone wants to be a Jedi, cool. Want to be a Sith or Bounty Hunter? Perfect.

Character customization, both to the character and what they wear, is a huge must. I imagine making the character itself would be able to make it so no one looks alike, but it should also be done with what they wear and so on. Otherwise everyone will be running around with the same end game red and black armor because it has huge stats despite looking ugly.

Just some of my thoughts.

Now I know nothing about games so take this for what it's worth, but when you consider the resources needed to create and play a game, I would think that less character customization is a pretty fair and reasonable trade-off for an open world.

Nah, a lot of games have done quite a good job of balancing those elements, sometimes even to a detriment.

Not really. In a game like Star Wars, character appearance is everything. People have already been Jedi and Sith...hell, even bounty hunters and clone troopers too. But what about droids? Jawas? Gungans? You may laugh now, but when exploring an open galaxy with difference species, it tends to open your eyes just a tad bit more and the replay value is astonishing.

Its a somewhat delicate balance. Games like Skyrim use a character builder that somewhat works on allowing you to distort the surface level and scale of the character model and frame, but its development (dating back to Oblivion) did mean it also required a single unified frame underneath that the game could run on, which for some players broke the immersion because suddenly cat and lizard men were walking just the same as humans, retconned by introducing subspecies. Similarly, weapon and armour designs proceeded to not vary much beyond certain items to save on development time, hence the fabled sword of the Red Eagle... looks entirely the same as other ancient swords lying about - and similar goes for tombs almost always containing Draugr, regardless of the age of the tombs themselves. And whilst to a player Skyrim is large and massive, in terms of scale its actually about the size of London, and the population of entire cities is no more than a few dozen.

At the same time, barring the guards, every character in those cities is unique, and whilst maybe lacking extensive depth, can typically be found to have their own behaviours, interactions, and stories. You can follow them home and explore their house, see where and how they live. Perhaps you'll accidentally stumble onto something that informs you further about them.

Or hell, the fact you can find the aftermath of events you never saw or took part in, but still happened in the game world. Even when you're not looking, its a world that lives and breathes.

I'd present GTA V as the best current or modern example of a game with incredible depth, a large open world and some pretty decent character customisation along with a great story and countless other things to do as well. That's ignoring the abysmal online features though....

...but a Star Wars game in that same vein would be pretty cool, albeit with even more customisation.

This didn't take long to turn into a wishlist. Considering we know nothing about the game, I'm not even bothering...I'm more curious as to what the idea and concept of the game is, and how it fits in to the current line-up between Battlefront 3 and TOR.

Realistically, Kaeb's concept of a sort of, '1313 meets GTA' is actually a pretty good fit into that line-up without stepping on any toes. The way I see it, though, the problem is that with several similar free roam titles, both current and pending release, there's a pretty big possibility of the market just not being all that interested by the time it comes out.

The only other similar title in that vein I can think of is Cyberpunk 2077, are there others?

I feel like the market and the gaming demographic overall is just ready for an open world, single player Sci Fi game.

Twice now we've had promises of upcoming titles that might support that notion in the form of 1313 and Prey 2 and twice now those high spirits have been shattered by cancellations. Rockstar (developers of the Grand Theft Auto series) have also reportedly received requests from gamers in the hundreds of thousands for decades now that they make a Sci Fi game in a similar vein to their previous titles.

Cyberpunk 2077 has made the claim to fulfill that desire, but that's a lot of pressure to place on an unestablished IP.

The last games I remember playing that were even remotely similar to the Sci Fi open world prospect, were the last two games in the Jak and Daxter series.

EDIT:

Just found this thread on Reddit all about it:

http://www.reddit.com/r/truegaming/comments/19cwen/are_there_any_completely_open_world_sci_fi_games/

The OP even used the GTA : Coruscant term like I have.

I've been waiting for an open world sci-fi game for I don't know how long. I've been playing a Star Wars galaxies emulator for a while now just because I'm craving an open world Star Wars.. Or any sci-fi game.
