Val Varthra is a non-Force-sensitive Human female and a citizen of the Din Empire serving as the Director of the Imperial Security Bureau and the founder of the Imperial Knights. She was previously a lieutenant in the ISB Peacekeepers under the extinct Sith Empire, having participated in a coup alongside Altair Din to overthrow the Empire's Sith overlords. A former citizen of Chandrila in her youth, her wealthy, socialite parents relocated their family to Dromund Kaas when she was still school aged hoping to avoid what they saw was the impending financial collapse of the New Republic. In school, she experienced an burgeoning loyalty to the Empire and applied to the military academy on Dromund Kaas when she came of age.
At the academy, Val received the standard training given to every member of the Sith military. However, she had no ambitions to serve in the army. Her interest in law enforcement and excellent scores in her strategy classes put her in good standing to join the Imperial Security Bureau or the Imperial Navy, both of which she had keen interest in. She ultimately chose to apply for the ISB and transferred to Serenno, where she quickly ascended from a mere officer to a detective by proving her keen insight in cases on Junction and Nez Perron.
Her ambition and ruthlessness at pursuing the maintenance of Sith law and order, her activity in the courts, and her unwillingness to tolerate dissension in Imperial ranks eventually won her the rank of Lieutenant within the Bureau. Shortly thereafter, her commission was transferred to the planet Dantooine. at the ISB's Khoonda offices. The planet was formerly a Jedi holding and she was charged with establishing law and order and stamp out dissidents in and around the system.
Val has a keen interest in art and is known to use some of her salary to purchase rare pieces to fill her office and personal residence. She also keeps up with galactic politics, having briefly considered a run for the Galactic Senate before choosing a career in the military. Though she is loyal to whomever sits the Imperial throne, she has recently gained a distrust for members of the Sith Order, due to how Force-sensitives, particularly among the Sith, tend to use and treat their non-Forceful colleagues and counterparts.
