The New Republic Defense Forces

________

yHwYlsa.png

The New Republic Defense Forces are the armed forces of the New Republic. Led by the Supreme Chancellor of the New Republic, their commander-in-chief, the New Republic Defense Forces (NRDF) are charged with patrolling New Republic Space and keeping member worlds safe from foreign invaders, pirates, and other criminals.

The NRDF is composed of two divisions: the New Republic Peacekeepers and the New Republic Navy.

Conscription

The New Republic Defense Forces are a voluntary standing army. A draft does exist in extreme circumstances, but can only be activated by the Supreme Chancellor with the consent of the New Republic Senate. The NRDF allows conscription regardless of species, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation; but it does require rigorous medical examinations and is required by New Republic law to only accept conscripts that are of adult age for their species.

Recruits are trained at a variety of different academies across New Republic Space. The most prestigious military academy in the New Republic is located on Coruscant. Others exist on Cardia, Fondor, and Devaron. Naval academies are located on Fondor and Kuat, where the largest New Republic shipyards are located.

New Republic Navy

________

The New Republic Navy is the space-fairing division of the New Republic Defense Forces. The navy is a robust organization that combines the resources of a number of New Republic worlds, chief among them Fondor and Kuat, that defend New Republic Space from enemies foreign and domestic. The navy also consists of local defense fleets maintained by systems and planets with the wealth and resources to maintain them. Thanks to the support of some of the largest contractors in the galaxy, and with the financial backing of the wealthy Core Worlds represented by the New Republic Senate, the New Republic Navy is among the largest and most well-funded in the galaxy.

Composition

Stations

The New Republic maintains three known Lormar-class refinery stations to facilitate mineral and gas extractions. The locations of these stations at Phu, Anaxes, and Ifrane are top secret, known only to the military brass of the New Republic, as they form the backbone of the navy's fuel supply.

Capital Ships

The most iconic vessels in the New Republic Navy are the Starhawk III-class battleships, modern renditions of past Starhawk models created by Kuat Drive Yards following the Republic's modernization efforts. The Starhawk III replaced almost all of the Old Empire's Star Destroyer models in the Republic Navy, becoming the most powerful capital ships in the fleet.

The navy also possess a small number of Interdictor-class Star Destroyers which compliments its most important fleets.

The Kuat Defense Force defends its space and shipyards with antiquated Procurator-class battlecruisers. These ships more closely resemble the iconic Imperial Star Destroyers, but because most were destroyed in the Hosnian Cataclysm, it is rare for them to be seen outside of Kuat Space.

Despite the popularity of the above models, the most numerous and common capital ships in the New Republic Navy are its CR100b corvettes. Smaller and faster than a Star Destroyer, and bearing the iconic design expected of Corellian engineering, CR100bs are commonly used by local and systemwide law-enforcement.

Other common models — some old and some newer — that could be seen complimenting fleets or guarding planets are the famous Sphyrna-class corvettes, as well as Arquitens-class command frigates and older model Raider-class corvettes. There were also EF90 Redemption-class medical frigates that could be used to supplement fleets in charge of large scale ground invasions, or sent to systems afflicted by AMS or other tragedies as part of a New Republic taskforce. But the most common frigate type seen accompanying the New Republic's fleets was the EF77 Nebbulon-D escort frigate.

Because the New Republic Navy sought to project power with its various starfighter types, the Fondor shipyards also began producing additional Tapani-class carriers, allowing fleets to deploy further swarms of New Republic X-wings into the heat of a space battle arena.

The New Republic Navy maintains a single Bellator-class dreadnought at a secret naval depot on the Deep Core world of Byss. Its existence is known only to the highest rungs of the New Republic government and military, and has only been speculated to exist by outsiders.

Starfighers

The New Republic Navy maintains a plethora of starfighter designs, each with their own unique purposes. Examples of these include:

The main starfighter of the New Republic Navy is the CF9 Crossfire starfighter, replacing the more iconic (and obsolete) older X-wing models used by the Rebel Alliance and the Independent Systems Consortiums. CF9s can be seen accompanying fleets and patrolling important star systems. CF9s also double as a light starbomber, adding to their range of purposes.

But while the CF9 might be the main starfighter representing the New Republic, the most feared and recognizable is the X-83 TwinTail starfighter, also known as the "New Republic X-wing." These long-range starfighters excel for their versatility and plethora of uses in space combat, capable of being sent out in large space battles or on smaller, even individual, missions.

Additionally, the New Republic deploys K-wing assault fighters primarily to man local system defense forces and to guard important space stations.

Fleets

The New Republic Navy usually leaves local defense to individual worlds and systems. However, it maintains a number of response fleets stationed nearby important systems in case of emergency, invasion, or the. need for pacification. Three of these fleets are worth mentioning. They are the Coruscant Defense Fleet, charged with defending the capitol of the New Republic; the Scepter Armada, stationed above Fondor; and the Kuat Defense Force, stationed around Kuat. These are noteworthy for being the largest Republic fleets, and possess a similar composition.

These three fleets are composed of:

Star Destroyers (x6) (Starhawk III-class on Coruscant and Fondor; and Procurator-class on Kuat)
Raider-class corvettes (x3)
RZ-2 A-wing interceptors (x4 per ship)
Interdictor-class Star Destroyer (x1)
T-90 X-wing starfighters (x18)
BTL-A4 Y-wing starbombers (x6)
SR-3 Trace-class patrol skiffs (x4)
EF76 Nebulon-B frigates (x2)
CF9 Crossfire starfighters (x6 per ship)
BTL-A4 Y-wing starbombers (x6)
SR-3 Trace-class patrol skiffs (x4)

Ranks

The commander-in-chief of the New Republic Navy is the Supreme Chancellor, though he usually defers major decisions to his naval leadership.

The New Republic Navy employs three Grand Admirals who each lead one of the three major planetary defense fleets at Coruscant, Fondor, and Kuat. These three admirals have significant sway over military policy and action, advising the Chancellor in addition to leading their fleets.

Ordinary Fleet Admirals man smaller battle groups and planetary defense forces across the New Republic. They oversee defense measures in their respective regions and are given their choice of a capitol ship to serve as their flagship. On more wealthy systems, these ships are typically Star Destroyers. On all other systems, they are Arquentins-class command frigates.

New Republic Captains are the officers in charge of individual vessels in the navy. Depending on their skill and seniority, their commands can range from ordinary corvettes or frigates, to larger Star Destroyers. Captains have complete control of their ship, but answer to their respective Fleet Admirals.

Fleet Officers are the backbone of the New Republic Navy. The rank refers to anyone below a captain in the navy. These can be starfighter pilots, or one of the countless officers aboard any one of the numerous vessels in the New Republic Navy.

New Republic Peacekeepers

________

The New Republic Peacekeepers are the army and ground forces of the New Republic Defense Forces. Conscripted from races and planets across the New Republic, the Peacekeepers earn their name by keeping the calm throughout New Republic Space and ensuring its borders remain protected. Major garrisons are located on Coruscant, Cardia, Corellia, and Devaron; while all other Republic worlds have at least a small troop presence, depending on their individual needs.

Equipment

All Peacekeepers are provided with a basic set of equipment upon their conscription into the New Republic army. This equipment includes New Republic trooper armor, a code cylinder, a DC-17 hand blaster, and a vibro-knife.

Peacekeepers may upgrade their equipment or add additional equipment to their retinue at their own leisure and with their respective salaries. The New Republic might also supply them with additional equipment depending on the uniqueness of their jobs (i.e., sniper rifles for snipers).

Droids & Vehicles

The Peacekeepers employ a number of droids and vehicles to assist in their mission.

LAAT/IE patrol gunships are a common sight on any world with a New Republic military presence, serving to deploy troops, as well as provide some air support. K79-S80 troop transports are another, more sturdy, means of delivering troops to the battlefield.

Relics of the Old Empire, requisitioned by the Alliance to Restore the Republic after the Empire's fall, can also be found still within the New Republic's service. AT-ATs, AT-STs, and even AT-RTs are common sights, for example.

While droids make up a small percentage of New Republic ground forces, the inclusion of worlds like Balmorra and Cato Nemodia in its federation means that the presence of droids are inevitable. Namely, antiquated Drodidekas, T4 turret droids, and more deadly E4 "Baron" battle droids are not unheard of among the ranks of the Peacekeepers.

Ranks

As in the navy, the Peacekeepers are ultimately led by the commander-and-chief of the New Republic armed forces, the Supreme Chancellor. However, the Chancellor frequently defers judgement to his generals on important matters.

Generals command large corps of New Republic peacekeepers and planetary garrisons. Planets without garrisons usually have a general present on a nearby Star Destroyer, ready to deploy with their troops in times of need.

Captains command smaller units of peacekeepers and are generally entrusted with small bases located throughout New Republic Space. In battle, they provide logistical support and serve directly under a general.

Peacekeepers are the general rank-and-file soldiers that fill the ranks of the New Republic army. They serve roles as planetary law-enforcement, medics, pacification, and standing occupational forces in the instance of an invasion. They are typically commanded by captains, who are themselves commanded by generals.

Intent

________

To define the New Republic's military and to open up the possibilities for writers to play characters other than politicians within the New Republic.
